Do you understand how football works , even though some may not be good enough for example at PL/ Championship level there's still money to be made by selling players to Clubs in the lower leagues , Southampton have just significantly improved their already Academy facilities by the sale of 3 players last season , it maybe easier to buy "cheap "when you're at the top of the ladder but try attracting and buying players when you're at the bottom of pile .Swansea I believe have players in their matchday squads who play at U21 level and have played in the 1st 11 .

To be fair Swansea have brought through less Premier League players than us through their academy in last 10 years

Exactly and that is why they've had to upgrade facilities, staffing etc. the point is that Swansea have less opportunity to try players out because they are in the top league. Cardiff can surely afford to try youngsters out on the basis of tier 2 football. That's a bonus.

Are you sure ?

Grimes Gorre Hanley Fulton Barrow Kingsley Donnelly all academy players who have played at some point in the 1st team in the PL ,

The point I'm making is that it should be easier to play youngsters at tier 2. If they can do it down the road, then it should be possible for opportunities to be offered to fledgling Bluebirds.

I agree , the lower leagues are full of youngsters who have been with their Clubs right through the age groups and develop both individually and as a group hence when you see Clubs like Bournemouth ,Bristol City for example come up with players who've been with their respective Clubs throughout it's normally when they reach the PL is when you see Clubs go out and buy the "cheap " foreign player who have had experience at the equivalent level and more so now with the vast sums of money at stake ,all of which makes it harder for a local home grown player to play at the highest level but not impossible .

You could well be right! Well it ain't Tony Ashley  Them were heady days!
Fine thanks mate yes ST holder. Glad everything ok, we'll have to keep in touch

I am still a ST holder ...have been for years ...we'll have to meet for a beer before a game !!

Hi Bill,

Yeah it would be great to meet up for a pint; I take my mate to matches and he's paraplegic so he usually likes to go straight into the stadium because it makes things easier for him. However he doesn't always go so I'll contact you when he isnt with me and we'll meet up  btw, do you keep in touch with Peter Gropier? I hadn't seen him for years but bumped into him at Sunderland in our Premier season. He hasn't changed! If I remember right I think he said his vynyl collection was up to 6000 now and 5000 of those were Bory Gallagher albums :laughing5: He was on a mission to visit every single Wetherspoons pub in the country: same old Peter!
