We will then be told that unfortunately we haven't been able to sign anyone as the move were dependent on the money coming in from the Marshall sale.

If I were Marshall I would be extremely unhappy if this move doesn't go through after the club has basically been pimping him and the rest of the team since the middle of last season.

By negotiating with West Brom the club have made it clear to Marshall that they would much rather have the money for him and his wages off the books than have him stay.

And still they claim to be committed to promotion this season!

If he did the money would probably go up like it always does, if a team gets off to a bad start.

Win win situation, we keep him or they pay £6 Million if they need him, which they do............

I would have been happy with us getting £5m for him. However, I am actually proud that the club isn't wilting easily. As the above poster says, £6m for him or we keep him. I am confident Marshall would love to play Premier League football but he won't be devastated if he has to stay here.

Is there another club willing to pay £6mil? Cardiff have no leverage to sell at 6 with only one club interested. I suppose there is time in this window so will be interesting to see if City get a big fee.

You could argue that our leverage is that we don't need to sell him. If West Brom want him then they can have him... they just need to add £1m more to their fee.

Good point, and he is tied to a long contract with the club :bluebird:

The fans chanted for Marshall to stay as they attended an open training session and squad photo call at Cardiff City Stadium

Cardiff City fans pleaded with goalkeeper David Marshall to stay during an open training session at Cardiff City Stadium - but the Bluebirds captain has told the club he wants to play Premier League football.

Marshall, the target for a £5m offer by Premier League West Brom, was cheered and applauded by hundreds of fans behind his goal as he faced crosses and shots from team-mates.

“Don’t go, David” was yelled a number of times, followed by “Marshall is a Bluebird” and applause from all those preparing to take part in the club’s biggest ever team photograph.

But the Scottish international, who has been with Cardiff for six years, has already told club officials he would like to play

Annis he was the first player to come over to the fans after the photo shoot to sign autographs and he was the last to leave the pitch :sladein: :bluescarf: :bluebird:
then he was mobbed in the car park and stayed to sign for every last fan who wanted a signature

I dont want to see Marshall go and I want us to get the very best price for him . But to be fair to him he did stay with us after we come down and didn't jump ship like a lot of them did. So we also have to be fair to him give him the chance he really deserves .

Marshall's a proper bloke and loyal unlike some of the other shits that we've signed recently.
I'd love him to stay but would wish him well if he decides to give a premiership club a go.

Re: UPDATED " POOR MARSHALL "

Had an excellent season in the Premiership and has been very loyal .

Don't want him to leave but no problems with him wanting to play in premiership as he hasnt asked for a transfer and the club are looking to make some money from his sale

Re: UPDATED " POOR MARSHALL "

The way I see it is this.

Marshall, club captain, settled in the area and happy to stay at the club.

West Brom come in with an offer. Tan and Malman breathe a huge sigh of relief - at last someone willing to pay a decent sum of money for one of our players!

The club, by it's actions in not telling WBA that he's not for sale and by negotiating with them over a fee, make it obvious to Marshall that they would rather have the money for him than have him stay at the club.

Marshall, understandably upset at the club effectively trying to show him the door after years of loyal service whilst trying to get as much money as they can for him, then says that he wants to play in the Premier League.

I don't blame Marshall feeling that way and he thoroughly deserves to be playing at a higher level. But if the club were really serious about getting promotion this season, wouldn't it make more sense to keep one of the very few players in the current squad who would be Premiership standard if we got there?

He's brilliant with the fans, can relate to us much better than the majority. Hudson was the same, they seem more grounded and appreciative than most of the others.............

Marshall treated William very very well at Forrest last season when he was mascot
Never stopped talking to him and put William first
And he remembered him when we got him to sign photos of him and William at the Forrest when we went to the open day on Monday
True professional and a gentlemen to boot
By the way it was nice to see that Marshall and moore were sharing a car on Monday :sladein: :bluescarf: :bluebird:

good on City. if WBA want Marshall, pay the price. if not move on.

Marshall and his family love it in South Wales, cant see them burning a strip to the west midlands even if they do come back with an acceptable offer. :thumbright: :bluescarf:

Don't feel sorry for him at all. If he was that loyal he would say he wanted to stay here where he is guaranteed first team football.

He misses first three games and then has to get in front of foster and myhill. Can see a bench warming exercise for a while.

The ball is in his court so let's see what happens if clubs agree a fee
