He probably had his best season last year with Birmingham.
http://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/foot ... ea-9581848'Cotterill impressed at Birmingham last season and was statistically one of the most creative players in the Championship after grabbing eight assists to go with nine goals for the West Midlands club.
And he was trusted by Coleman for the crunch clash against Belgium in Brussels in November, playing his part in the eye-catching 0-0 draw having already grabbed the opening goal over Cyprus at Cardiff City Stadium a month earlier'.Although there seems to be a bit of history to overcome with Cardiff fans:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Cotterill'Cotterill was born in Cardiff, Wales, and is married to Sasha. After signing for Swansea City in 2010, Cotterill revealed that he had received death threats from fans of Cardiff City after scoring a penalty against them whilst at former club Sheffield United'.

An average player replacing someone who on their day is a match winner. Noone's only problem is that he is always try's to do too much. More disappointing transfer business by the club.
When has Noone been a watch winner? Not for a long time. Cotterill however has very decent stats.

Someone find this kids head. Fallen off... Regardless of stats, dying to play for Cardiff, commutes every day, his own harshest critic. Knows he was three very poor seasons, was decent at donnie and brum, in very poor teams. Say you want a tricky winger, fair enough but unfortunately we play poor football. Cotts delivery much better than Noone, if noone doesnt beat a man his heads gone after ten minutes. Different players but he is going to do well for us, hungry and wants to play.
Move was agreed in Jan, personal terms etc.. Not sure now but was willing to take a pay cut in Jan

Did he (Cotterill) play for Birmingham last season?

Yep

Average at best, we should be looking to give youngsters such as Harris & Kennedy more of a run out this season.

Yes, had a great game when we went there

Often Partisan, one of the Birmingham blogs, has picked up the story - although it is mainly just recycling what's on here:

The author isn't convinced yet!

Not sure why he isn't convinced.
This forum rarely gets these things from and if you go to David Cotterill's Twitter profile and look at his 'following' list, you'll see he follows Cardiff City's official Twitter.

Blog post on Cotteril coming up tomorrow.

At least now we can put the rumour to bed about signing Russell
Sun Jul 26, 2015 10:43 pm
Good signing I think, he's done very well for Birmingham and Wales. Jacks aside, he's a Cardiff lad and I'd welcome him here any day.

f**k him
once a jack always a jack.
prefer kennedy myself.
leave him rot in the midlands

Well happy with this,a Welsh boy in for someone who's been unable to cross a ball since we bought him,had a few gd games in the premiership and has been awful since,as great a character he is unfortunately he's not as gd a player

Aw ffs.. My cousin is very close with Cotterill and he's an idiot. Was spewing in a gutter today at a Polo event down Pontcanna.
Regardless of that, he's such an average player and used to be a Jack. Not pleased with this news one bit..

Great signing.

He's a good signing for CARDIFF now. Forget about the past.

If he's signed, support him. Where's the point in dragging up the past? How can the club move forward otherwise??
Mon Jul 27, 2015 4:04 am
Poor signing in my opinion
What happened to the midfield general
Mon Jul 27, 2015 6:28 am
Do we need another winger ffs?
Wouldn't be the player I would go for but time will tell as always.
Again, Slade not addressing the real issues & positions needed.

This^^^^ Never liked the guy, but this season he'll be busting a gut to impress Trollope, so should produce the goods.
Mon Jul 27, 2015 7:25 am
He is deadly from wide set pieces, can whip in a really good delivery.
It might make Whitts up his free kick game which has gone off the boil.
Mon Jul 27, 2015 7:34 am
I'm not looking forward to the season - and this would be another reason why
Mon Jul 27, 2015 8:17 am
Let's just wait for the season to start.
At the moment it's a clean slate, fresh start for everyone. Before we start slagging players, coaches and manager off. Give them a chance, you never know we could be in for a surprise .
Let's be 100% behind the team .
Mon Jul 27, 2015 8:34 am
Not according to Wales Online this morning, said rumour incorrect.

Updated
At this moment in time the Club are saying there is No deal.
But Cotteril was the one telling people and is desperate to move to Cardiff for personal reasons.
David Cotteril was at the Polo in Pontcana yesterday and it was him himself who stated that he will be signing later this week for City.
Russell Slade has Finally got his Midfield player
Just been told this
David Cotteril has said today he's signing for Cardiff this week coming

What? Like Andy Legge, Jason Bowen, Robbie James, Frank Burrows etc. It's not like we're signing Tate, Rangel or Dyer!!!

Absolutely spot on. Its a limited opportunity profession and you have to grab them when they come along and it was Swansea and not Cardiff that made him the offer. How many youngsters living in the area are being grabbed by Swansea now even though they are Cardiff City supporters.

My understanding Annis is that Jonny Russell is the main target and selling Noone will fund the deal. all depends if we can get the player wanting to come down then. Cotterill is probably on the *B* list
