I went to that game and he was the difference. He scored a goal which he created out of nothing for himself and he showed he has an abundance of ability that game. In the second half he had 3 City players around him and shrugged them all off to keep possession with his body strength and quick feet. He's pacey, skilful, powerful and is a Premiership standard player. He just needs to sort his attitude and consistency out, as I can imagine him being very similar to JET, all the talent but frustrating.

Still, he had 27 appearances for Newcastle last season, which shows he can't be that bad at all, otherwise he wouldn't have had that many appearances. He also scored 6 seconds after coming on the pitch away to Spurs. Overall, I am happy with this signing, ability wise he will be one of the best Championship signings this season.

Whether he will consistency produce his talent for us this season remains to be seen. I can see him getting subbed at half time after doing absolutely nothing, then coming on as a sub for another game and single handedly winning us the game. As long as he puts in a shift for the majority of games, I'm confident Ameobi will prove to be a great signing. At least we won't be lacking the creativity and flair we previously lacked with players like Ameobi in the team.

Bloody hell I can't believe I'm agreeing with you    :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Spot on.
However I reckon some would rather we failed so they can say 'I told you so'.

IF and it is a big IF Slade takes us up he'll be a hero on a completely different level to Malkybafter what he's had to deal with.
I'd rather dream of this - going up in blue - than whinge about impending failure.
If you only look at the possibility of failure it can be a self- fulfilling prophecy.

Sammy Ameobi is set to complete a season-long loan deal to Cardiff City.

The player’s sister confirmed that Ameobi would be joining the Welsh club for a fresh start.

Ameobi is thought to have signed a new contract with the Magpies but will join the Championship club on loan to play out the season, with the player desperate for first-team action.

Ameobi had also been wanted by Wolverhampton Wanderers but Russell Slade won the race to sign the 23-year-old.

Sammy’s sister Titi confirmed the move by posting a picture of Ameobi “leaving home” for the first time via her Instagram site.

Ameobi knows that he is not guaranteed first-team football at Newcastle next season, and after a season of struggle with injury and non-selection his career has reached a crossroads.

Report: Sammy Ameobi to join Cardiff City on loan

By Giuseppe Labellarte, Reporter
Last Updated: Monday, July 6, 2015 at 21:58 UK
Newcastle United winger Sammy Ameobi has decided to sign a new contract with the club and will join Cardiff City on loan, according to reports.

The 23-year-old was set to become a free agent after the Magpies allowed his deal to run down, but Chronicle Live claims that he has been convinced to commit his future to the club.

The report goes on to add that Newcastle will allow him to begin the season on loan at Cardiff, who are looking to replace Bakary Sako.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are also rumoured to be interested in signing Ameobi, who made 27 appearances in all competitions last season and scored two goals.

I think we forget the respect that Slade has within the game with players and other managers. Because we spend a lot of time on this board, we get used to thinking that people don't like him when that clearly isn't true. Not that anyone will give him credit here. :sladein:

Don't quite understand this one. Was'nt aware that we were looking to replace Sako, don't remember him playing for us.

He's a much better player than his brother, reminds me of Raheem Sterling actually. Just needs to work on his finishing, then he'd be a tidy little player.

Will suit him moving down a league, and could do a job for us. Must admit, this kind of signing does suggest a different style of play might be on the way for us...?

First time I can remember a transfer being announced on instagram by a player's sister. Would have thought it would have been a bit more professional if it had been announced by the two clubs involved.

I'm a defo Slade slammer, but you have to give him some credit, he is working under smaller budgets than the previous three Managers, so it's a much tougher job, fingers crossed he proves us wrong :ayatollah:

From the bits I have seen of him, he can be very good on his day. He can also make Kenwynne look like the leagues hardest worker, and as Tonteg said, could be subbed at half time when he is having one of his couldn't care less days.

Pleased with this signing, an attacking player, full of tricks and at this level his ability should shine through. On loan as well so should be relatively cheap, good work Russell boy.

Hopefully this is a time in his career where he really wants to knuckle down and make something of himself. It'll be the first time he'll be playing his football away from the north east, hopefully it's his time to grow as a player and we'll reap the benefits.

Welcome Sammy. :bluescarf: :ayatollah: :bluebird:

Agreed. The big thing here is that a lot of us criticised the team last year for not bringing that element of unpredictability with Ameobi we certainly get that. Let's just wait and see but I'm a bit more optimistic after this signing.

He sounds a bit hit & miss. Could be another Zaha/Ravel Morrison or of course he could settle & turn out to be great for us.
Time will tell but I'm sure we'll all get behind him.
