You're right of course, but you're also wrong. No matter how big or small your debt is,if your a business and you can't pay it your gone.Thats the position we were in.Of course you may choose to believed the half truths spouted by a few on here but we would have been gone, its that simple and its a matter of record and not someone told me this or that bull.

It's not definite we were gone. What is fact is that HMRC said we didn't have enough income to pay anywhere near our outgoings. What is also fact is that season tickets for the next season had already been sold on the premise of buying players but actually to pay a previous tax bill. What is also fact is that we had one asset we could sell to raise money at that time namely Adam Matthews. However that deal had fallen by the wayside as prospective buyers had realised he wasn't worth anywhere near the 5 million quoted for him. With our troubles we would have been lucky to get 1.5 million as people knew we were desperate for funds. Even if we had sold him and paid HMRC it was just delaying the inevitable.

What isn't fact is who would have bought us had Tan not as new ownership was the only way we were getting out of the mess. Prospective owners had plenty of opportunity but weren't knocking the door down.

By definition of course we were not gone but HRMC were petitioning for a wind up order on the club and it was only staved off by the investment. So the answer to the OP's question is without doubt and not open to question or interpretation as it is a matter of record, historical fact, dress it up any way you like......................GONE,HISTORY,BUST,WAS BUT IS NO MORE.

Interesting opinions on here

I'm sure Steve borley a member of the Board of directors at the time of tans initial investment has said we were a matter of hours from being wound up, whether that is 100% accurate or not only a few people probably actually know but having dealt with liquidation and the HMRC within my family I can assure you once that order has been made you are in big trouble if you cannot prove you a significant investment coming in whether that be a lucrative contract or cash in the form of new investors etc then I'm afraid it's curtains there is no way back there is no 10p in a pound keep your same name and trade again it's bye bye business

Had this of happened to us I feel we would be finished, we would no longer have been Cardiff City that is a fact yes we would have reformed a new club but there would have been no guarantee that we would be allowed in the English leagues again, big difference between administration dropping down the leagues and facing a points deduction to being wound up the existence of the club no more and having to form an entire new club

Rangers is a perfect example wound up completely formed a brand new club effectively playing in the lowest league of Scottish football

It is of my opinion that we would have to have played under the Welsh leagues as no newly formed Welsh club is getting allowed to play in the English football tiers

That's would really have meant no way back ever for this club

So it really depends how you feel on the situation

Do I like tan?

Not really I believe he's made some huge mistakes, football is not like any other business success whilst it can be bought with money true success comes from a United club from top to bottom with everyone pulling together, tan destroyed that and it was a sour taste actually getting to the premiership we should have enjoyed that season far more as fans, I did not attend a single game that season

Do i respect tan?

Not for the rebranding no but for saving this club from a certain winding up order the yes
There was no one else in the wings willing to save this club he done that and I said above I truly believe our fate would be a lot worse than some on here think

My hopes for the future is that we remain established in this league back in our rightful colours tan continues to take his investment from the club as best as he can whilst keeping the club challenging towards the top end of the leagues, hopefully we gain a promotion through the play offs and that way tan can get out with most if not all of his money back and keep his promise that he would leave this club on a better financial footing than when he arrived here

That would then give this club a fantastic chance of forgetting some of the toughest years in our history which really in all honesty should have been our most enjoyable
