He's too slow for a winger and he hasn't the skill nor movement to be a no.10. He hasn't the defensive capabilities to play on the midfield flanks. But a number 10? Never in a million years! A good number 10 needs to have quick vision, nimble passing ability and pace and guile to get into forward attacking areas. They need to be able to link the rest of the midfield with the strikeforce quickly and efficiently. Whittingham, I fear has none of these attributes. He would be picked off relentlessly by even mediocre defenders because he is so slow and ponderous. Also, remember a good number 10 spends a lot of his time with back to goal and has a sixth sense of the positioning of his striker partner. I see nothing of this abikity in PW. Kim was probably the best exponent of this art we have had at the club recently and I don't assume even you would compare Whittingham to him. However, for me, another nail in his coffin in terms of number 10 is why on earth would we need him in that position when we already have a natural no 10 who is better thsn him in that position anyway...Joe Mason.
