Stats have a good place in football to help make a decision. It shouldn't make a decision.

For example fabio maybe isn't as solid defending and doesn't offer as many assists but how has his energy and runs made teams change. How has he made extra space for others?
Have we scored more with him in the team? Conceeded less.
Malone has made huge mistakes when I've watched him but got away with it. I still thunk Malone could be OK but he is two cheaper option.

To many questions.

I would also guess Peltier has been more solid than others but offers nothing forward, does that help?

Russell Slade is obsessed with stats and it is something he relies heavily upon as part of his management. In his office the walls and his desk are covered by stats on players and performances.

His stats reveal that Fabio cost the team 6 goals last season.

Slade believes statistically Scott Malone is the best option as left back more than any other player in the squad.

Peter Whittingham is by far the best for passing stats.

Slade evaluates his stats and picks his team using them.

Is this really how Slade picks his team, using stats ?

Surely if stats are that important to Slade, he must recognise the possession stats are nowhere near what they should be too ?

He can read his stats as many times as he wants, it statistically didn't get us anywhere!!

Fabio, is one of my favourite players, makes mistakes, but makes up with it,with his quality and passion :thumbright: :thumbright:

Totally agree! Stats are only a tool to be used alongside actual observations and gut instinct. Play by statistics and become a statistic. :old:

Shock horror manager uses stats

Yet somehow the OP knows slade is obsessed by them? How does his use of stats compare to other managers? Have the facts to be able to judge?
I'm no Slade fan but the real obsession is by those on here looking to slam him at every opportunity.

Craig Noone had one goal and one assist last season, less than Ben Turner

That's a shocking statistic for a first team regular winger

I'm sure I read somewhere that Whittingham hasn't scored from a set piece in 2 and a half years
