He was one of thousands Simon and I always look back at that picture of the Brighton game and see thousands of our fans with their free scarves and the reality is if we had stayed in the premiership the ground would be packed to the rafters and still playing in red.
Anybody who thinks different is deluding themselves.
One man could never have made the difference but if thousands of fans had made their feelings clear then instead of when things went backwards on the field who knows if the rebrand would have happened.
There are thousands of fans responsible for letting it happen not a chosen few.

Jon, I assume the "knob" you refer to is Steve Borley??![]()
Perhaps you could do some research on what Steve Borley has done for this club over many years (well before his hands were tied behind his back) as you may well alter your thinking on this one!![]()
What people don't realise about Steve Borley is that he has hung around whilst many others have abandoned ship in an effort to 'make a difference' and to help ensure the future of the club he (like the most of us) loves and supported from a very early age when he was born literally next door to Ninian Park!
Yes, he has invested interests in the club; yes, he has had his 'influence' somewhat diminished since Tan came in; and yes, he has the occasional 'rant' in response to some severe provocation form some people who can be pretty self-seeking individuals themselves!
Steve Borley has the best interests of Cardiff City FC at heart and put his own money in when others ran away on more than one occasion. That we are here as a club today has a LOT to do with Steve Borley and those of us who were around during the truly dark days can testify to the monumental efforts Steve has put into the club and beyond!
To sum him up simply as a "knob" is massively disrespectful and (sorry) a little ignorant to the fact!

Sven, I do actually know a lot about Steve and his history with the club, our families are very closely connected and I'm actually a distant relative. I know all the ins and outs about his time at the club all the way back to the time when he bought the club for a pound.

Steve put a quarter of a million into the club during kumars reign and when he took the chairmanship over the club was a million in debt and he was paying the wages on a weekly basis.
He had to put more money in to dilute kumar and other directors shares so your bought the club for a pound is far from the mark.
That's the problem I have with the people who say he made a fortune from the stadium development because they forget the years previously where he propped the club up financially every month.

So what else is he supposed to do as a director then? Every Director is expected to put finances into the club at some point, whether in loan form or to exchange for shares or favours. Directors gain from the associations they build from other prominent business people within the community, I'm sure Borleys engineering firm has won many contracts from his association with Cardiff. We are all thankful for Borleys work and commitment for the club, but it doesn't excuse him from some of his behaviour to supporters and all his actions. On the other point you made about one man not making much difference especially when the supporters in their thousands visually backed the red, then that's just so wrong. The board including Borley were our eyes and ears with Tan, they really were the only ones that could have stopped it or altered Tans thinking. Instead they chose to influence supporters with giving them the worst case scenario should they not comply. That moment for me, was when Borley stopped being a City supporter like us and became just another business man.

I was responding to the poster Jon who said borley bought the club for a pound which was untrue and of course i expect directors and chairmen to put their own money in although ridsdales contribution seems to have escaped me and sam lent 24 million off somebody else to plunge the club into debt whilst taking 500k per annum in fees.
do you really believe steve borley or anyone had a say in what tan was going to do with the club. I can imagine our fan base if he had been able to stop the rebrand and the club had gone bust i would imagine most people would want to lynch him.
It wasent one man to blame it was our fickle fan base who accepted the red and took the scarfs in lieu of premiership football who dident stick up for the blue at the time.
the same fan base who creamed themselves over singing dont sack mackay for 45 minutes at anfield and did naff all when he did get the sack days later.
its very easy to point the finger at one man when in reality its the whole fan base who need to look at themselves in the mirror over the rebrand.
If your ever in doubt always look back at the pictures of the brighton game to see how quickly the red was accepted by the fans for the cash on offer

Sorry Steve, but your head is stuck firmly up Borleys arse, you cannot say that Borley nor any other director had no influence and were powerless to act on what Tan proposed. They had choices and options. There wasn't even a consultation and vote from the supporter base, on the merits of what was being proposed. Your quick to slander Sam or Ridsdale, whilst defending Borley, yet he was instrumental in bringing both in. Borley was licking Sams arse for 5 years, then when the wind had changed and PMG wanted the Lions share, then Sam was made out to be a monster who was killing the club. I was personally pmd by Borley and his aide Daya at the time slandering SH. I am not blaming one man for all the ills at Cardiff, but please don't think that we are naïve enough, to believe that all the directors including Borley have not been complicit in what Tan has been allowed to do here. You seem to believe or are re writing history that all Cardiff supporters embraced the rebrand, when in fact in reality a fraction actually did. The fact is that we hardly sold any Red merchandise for two years, does that tell you that the fans embraced it? It tells me that they certainly didn't.

sorry you had to resort to insults fella so i wont drop to that level.
i wont go back into ins and outs of finances but suffice to say my wife has looked after steves finances for the last 23 years so would know the amount of money down the swanee over the years of putting money into the football club which was at least his own along with Pmg who used their own money. as for sam he stood in front of me and to quote" when i leave the club the debt leaves with me" there were several people on this board who were privilege to that conversation as well.
whatever way you look at it with owners, directors, chairman and fans this club is at yet another crossroads in its existence and could go either way in my opinion in the next six months.
lets hope in six months time we are both here to debate all things cardiff city without anyone crawling up anyones arse.
