Yes I know he scored 20 goals in one season for us 12/13 was it from penalties![]()
In all seriousness Steve, I agreed 100% with you about Rudy but you are very very wrong about Whitts I'm sorry to say, it's as if you have something personal against him because I can't believe for the life of me it's because of footballing reasons, look at the bigger picture, where he was being played didn't suit his game style and when he is played to his strengths he is the best creative midfielder in the championship bar none but as you say it's all about opinions.
So who exactly are the sheep followers and who are the sheep here in this particular instance?? I hope you are not referring to me being a follower of sheep as I have always rated Whitts and never have slagged him off unlike some on here that as far as I'm concerned no nothing about football. I make my own judgements on players whether I think they are good players or bad and have never followed anyone elses stance on players just because it suits the agenda of that person, I do actually have my own mind.
I have never seen or heard you praise Whitts when he has been brilliant for us, instead you have kept quiet, but when he has had a bad game, and lets face it all players do, you are on his back like a lion after a wilderbeast. Another poster on here springs to mind that has the same input as you when it comes to Whitts, he goes by the username of City Slicker, are you sure you're not him?![]()
Anyway I thought I had to say my piece and now it's rant over, you hate Whitts, (why, I'm not quite sure), and I rate him highly along with 3 previous managers and the current one, I know who I'm going to go with on Whitts and it's not you![]()
As far as Villa letting him go is concerned, many clubs have made mistakes releasing players too early and then regretting it later on, Villa are one of those clubs regarding Whittingham.
You stated a prime example which tells me you don't actually know what job is expected from Whitts when you mentioned about his 20 goals in one season but 12/13 were penalties. He is not a goalscorer, he is a set piece taker and a creative midfielder so most of his goals are going to come from set pieceswho is the best for assists, remind me please, oh yes it's none other than Whitts

City Slicker here Tenerife! No I'm not Trooblu but we obviously have similar views on Whittingham.
I didn't particularly want to post on this Whittingham Celebration thread because I thought it inappropriate as I'm not a member of the ' Whitts Appreciation Club' but thanks for inviting me.
I think Depressed Blue got it right when he said that his current form shouldn't detract from his past contribution to the club's fortune. I think that statement is right and I applaud Peter for his award and think it deserved. I will not go as far as to say he is Premier Class and I think Trooblu was right in his Aston Villa comments. However the guy has been a very good player at Championship level and just about deserved to be included in the list, although, in my opinion in the company of some far better players than him such as Bale and Lallana who I doubt even you would compare him with. Nevertheless I am pleased a Cardiff City player received this award and I am pleased for Whittingham.
However, I'm glad you said it shouldn't get personal because it seems whenever anyone makes any adverse comment about Whittingham his army of fans start spouting obscenities etc. as we have witnessed previously in the thread.
I dont think he is anywhere near as good as he was and of course age creeps up on all of us and I dont buy the argument he's played out of position either. He's still a good player but his lack of pace and his tendency to go missing in games counts massively against him in my opinion. I've read some of supporters say hes had a brilliant game when all hes done is a few sideways passes and maybe a couple of good corner kicks and then we get slated when we say he hasn't done very much. You can't win I suppose, thats football. If someone has a hero they'll support them to the hilt and often blindly. I dont see many Whittingham supporters praising Gunnar for some killer balls which he has made to the strikers many time. Many would prefer to call him a donkey in support of Whittingham.
But there you are, football is all about opinions and without them it would be less fun! Congratulations to Whittingham!![]()

Only one other player has appeared in more Championship games in the last decade and that is Lee Grant, without one season in the Premier League, Whitts would top the appearance table.
No other player in the last decade has provided more assists than Whitts, and he has also scored more penalties than any other player, he is joint 3rd in the list of most hatricks and he is 5th in the list of highest goalscorers in the last 10 years.
In my opinion Whitts is THE standout player for a place in the Championship team of the decade.

I honestly have to applaud you on that post as I do respect your decision even if it does differ from mine but I suppose the world would be an awfully boring place if we all agreed on everything. I actually like Gunnarsson aswell but I don't think he has the creativity that Whitts has, he is more of a grafter really so I believe they actually compliment each other in a strange way. I don't mind admitting that I'm a big Whitts fan but if he does have an off game, and yes I do agree with you over the last 2 years he has had a few, then I will say that but I will never slag him off or any other player for that matter as they are wearing the shirt for Cardiff City, I hope you agree with me that some players deserve to be slagged off because you and I see that they don't give two hoots for us and just turn up and get their paycheck but I feel that Whitts is not one of those players and has actually been a great servant for our club. Like I say, I did like reading your post and hope one day you can appreciate the job Whitts has been asked to do. Certainly a big congratulations to Whittingham.
