Like him or not top gear makes the BBC millions in merch and tv sales etc. without it the BBC gets an awful lot weaker and some of the smaller shows you like may disappear.

He has got opinions so what. The haters are the Russell Brand lovers. Personally I enjoy top gear and his brand of humour. Bring back Clarkson

Don't watch the progemme very much but as you say it brings in £millions for the BBC, which pays towards less watched/successful programs.
I was amazed how many countries bought it (214?) and the income it generates for the tax payer.
He is arrogant but thats what helps make the programme, especially when things go wrong for him.

Nukes, you are right. Clarkson is an 'entertainer' and millions like him for his 'off the wall' comments and his books are a hilarious read, so long as you don't take him too seriously!
For those that don't like him, there's always the 'off' button on the TV remote or bookshelf to leave his books on!
