Not true. You are far more likely to get a job which is secure and well-paid if you have a degree. The University of life can be studied at as a post graduate.

Many people who decry higher education either didn't attend or achieve it, or better still know a bloke who has 3 degrees and a masters bug still can't tie his shoelaces. Nonsense!!

Go to uni if you can!!!

Is true. The amount of university educated people who end up with a basic admin job is incredible because there's too many graduates for too few graduate jobs in this country. So much so that employers are more interested on your life experience more than anything else these days

Part of what you say is true. Yes, a higher % of graduates now end up in jobs not really requiring a degree. However, less that half are in this category and even then, by the time they get into their 30's they average over £10k higher wages than non graduates.

The lowest rate of employment is for Arts and Humanities which is still in excess of 80%.

The truth is that if you do a degree, you are far more likely to get a job and very likely to be secure and well paid:

how are you supposed to find decent work if the entry level jobs you are looking at have people with degrees applying?

good luck getting a career in dentistry, medicine, law, accountancy, etc without a degree. yes there are too many graduates, but the solution to that is not to be less qualified than the competition…... its about picking your subject carefully. if the lad has any ability he'd be mad not to get a degree.

Get into the best Uni you can!
I regularly interview graduates for role at a large utility company and we alway look at the quality of Uni, the degree and then work experience, preferably related to the course you are doing.
Getting a degree these days is relatively easy, getting a good degree from a good uni is better.

Cardiff is one of the good ones so what ever yiou decide good luck!

Yet there is still a level of employment that won't even look at you unless you have the correct qualifications. What your saying is very general, I'm an electrical engineer and I've just enrolled onto a distance learning degree in engineering because it will significantly increase my future opportunities and pay level Because my experience will only count for so much

Spot on mate! Ideally, do the degree while you're young because it is tougher if you are working and have a family. I take my hat off to you sir for having a go. Good luck!

I’m going to university next year but unsure if I should stay in Cardiff where I already have a decent part time job and study? Or should I travel further afield and live in a different part of the country and worry about getting a job etc later on?
:bluescarf:

Mate move away, DEFINITELY!!!

I couldn't get into Cardiff so (not through choice) went to uni in Preston and it was the best thing I ever did, for sure! You don't have the luxury of just being able to go home or call up your Cardiff friends when you're bored but that actually turned out to be a really good thing for me as I made some top mates and became far more independent than when I left.

I actually travelled back for every Cardiff home game by train which took up most of money but other than that it was the best 3 years of my life, and I can't recommend moving away enough!!! Make the most of it because when you're finished it's back to the real world, and don't take the safe option because you'll regret it. :ayatollah:
