Real Madrid, a predominantly Catholic city, have removed the Christian Cross from their logo so not to offend the Musilim community following their sponsorship deal with a UAE bank.

Unfortunately, football is ruled by money so there is no protection over culture.

In all fairness, the city hall dragon does slightly resemble an oriental dragon in the fact it has whiskers and a serpent like body. If it does reflect that dragon, I really wouldn't mind as I has some affiliation with our city

If this was all about Tan's ego, we would still be playing in red with this horrendous beer mat badge. Tan has gone back on his ridiculous rebrand and giving us a new badge with the Bluebird as the main, prominent, dominant symbol. We can't ask for any more.
It is about his ego as I said in my OP , Tan is the only owner in the football league to put something of his culture on a football teams badge which has been around for over 100 years. Do you see Abromiovich (SP) put anything Russian on Chelsea badge , Venkys put anything of their culture on Blackburn badge , Leeds owner putting anything Italian on theirs, I could go on but not 1 owner has done this . Tan is the only owner who wants something to do with him on the badge and it's wrong the badge should be about representing Cardiff's history and Culture not a mans ego trip

Great answer & great comeback Darren.
Tans ego through & through if this is the case.
I'll reserve my opinion until I see it though.

From FaceBook
Peter Edwards At the meeting of the chosen few fans last month, when the return to blue and badge was discussed, did anyone say at that, they did,nt want anything Oriental on the badge ?

Dave Roderick Going back to Blue was a huge achievement for us and a massive turn around for Tan. I would prefer the old badge back too, but I suppose we have to accept that for now, a compromise with something small representing our Malaysian owners on the badge is inevitable.

Alan Ccfc Lydiard are we Malaysian or Welsh, i beg to differ....... for me its our club country and heritage, and for those who praise tans investment, id just like to remind you as it stands its debt and at any time we could be in administration and in league one with ten point deduction... just food for thought.

Peter Edwards Not a healthy scenario when one guy has so much control, all the others, each and everyone of them, are just puppets.

I see your point and of course, Tan severely damaged our club with the badge change and rebrand, but the Bluebird is back as our main emblem now. We've had various different badges in our history with the Bluebird as the main emblem, containing different items, colours and backgrounds around it. We had an old badge without a dragon on there at all. Nobody complained about any of our previous Bluebird badges, apart from perhaps Sam Hammam's badge with the black and gold Celtic cross in the background.

We've got our blue back, we've got our Bluebird back and we've got our identity back. As long as the oriental dragon isn't too big and visible so it looks tiny compared to the Bluebird, I will be delighted. If the oriental dragon is a fair size, I won't be 100% happy; but we've got our blue and our Bluebird back, and that's all that matters to me for now! I think anyone expecting anything more than this right now are being overly demanding and unreasonable.

A little apprehensive about the badge now after being excited following the initial comments of fan involvement after the meeting. The current badge is dogshit but if we do end up having an oriental dragon it could be just as bad however prominent the bluebird is. Fingers crossed it's going to be okay but that would be to easy for us I suspect

I'd rather an oriental dragon than FIRE AND PASSION. The bluebird represents us, the main focal point. The oriental dragon represents Tan and his heritage. The both of them on the badge together represent the coming together of both elements, which is what our club is, it is exactly that now. Fire and Passion was just cringeworthy - it was a soundbite that had more place on a Harry Potter house motif than any respected football club. I'll be more annoyed by Fire & Passion remaining on the badge if it is still there than the dragon.

I am a Welsh nut. But I really don't care about whether our Dragon on our badge has a slightly different tail or wing. If you look through the years we have had (as a country) many different Dragon styles. I thought the badge was a fusion badge anyway??? Will wait and see but looking forward to it. The current badge and the Sam st David's badges are not cardiff city are they? If there is one thing to sort out its the lack of passion in the stadium....

All of a sudden we want a Welsh dragon badge? I thought we wanted a bluebird badge ? We had a Welsh dragon badge, with a tiny bluebird, that was s##t .
So if we have a badge with a prominent blue bird and a small dragon Welsh or not, that is all we want isn't it.
If we are so pro Welsh why make a fuss about our kit colours ?
Some of us are never pleased anything to get at Tan.
Blue kit and a blue bird badge HAPPY DAYS and hopefully looking forward not back.

Re: Tan urges fans to be positive about oriental dragon on n

I have no problem with this, as long as the bluebird is the main emblem it shouldn't matter, tans reversed the re brand and all he wants is a oriental dragon on the badge aswell, he's the one keeping our club afloat he should be allowed this, can't have it all sadly but afloat small dragon for his culture should be enough

Please guys, as somrone else has astutely posted on here, dont get hung up on a mythical figure which has been relegated in size and importance. Its the Bluebird which is important and .......its a real creature to boot!

I'll save my view until we've seen the badge, but I just hope this dragon isn't anywhere near as bad as it sounds.
