Reports are emerging that Russell Slade has handed in his resignation at Leyton Orient ahead of a potential move to Cardiff City.

The 53-year-old is as short as 1/5 with most bookmakers to take over at the Championship side after the parted company with Ole Gunnar Sojskjaer.

The Bluebirds had made three approaches for Slade, who was the fourth longest serving manager out of the 92 professional English clubs, last week, but all were rejected by the Brisbane Road side, and that has left Slade with very little choice but to resign if he wanted the opportunity to take over at the Welsh club.

No official club statement has come as of yet, but former Chief Executive Matt Porter tweeted his thanks to Slade, which is the biggest indicator at the moment to suggest his offer of resignation has been accepted

Porter said: “Probably the best decision I ever made as #LOFC CEO was to recommend we appointed Russell Slade. A pleasure to work with and a great manager.”

For Slade, this will be the biggest test of his managerial career, having yet to experience management in the second tier of English football.

After last night’s 1-0 home loss to Sheffield United in the Capital One Cup, Slade said: “Everybody wants to better themselves, especially when you’ve been in League One for a few years and come so close in May to getting ourselves in that position.

“We were a penalty kick away from the Championship. It’s frustrating. It’s a big club and it will be a big job for somebody that eventually ends up with it.”

You are probably right but still we can't judge slade if he does get the job, he could be the man we need, time will only tell

Leyton Orient manager Russell Slade has reportedly handed in his resignation as he moves a step closer to joining Cardiff City.

The O's boss has made no secret of his desire to move to the Championship club and admitted last night he did not know if he would be in charge for the Rochdale game on Saturday.

Orient have turned down three approaches from Cardiff City and Slade himself which has seemingly left the manager with no alternative but to resign in an effort to force through his move to Wales.

The O's have yet to confirm whether Slade's resignation has been accepted but it is hard to see them standing in his way after Slade was recently handed an ultimatum which he publicised to the surprise of owner Francesco Becchetti.

Speaking last night after Orient's defeat to Sheffield United, Slade said: “Everyone wants to better themselves and you’ve been in League 1 for a few years and came so close in May to getting ourselves in the Championship.

"We were a penalty kick away. It’s frustrating. It’s a big club [Cardiff] and it will be a big job for somebody that eventually ends up with it.”

it was posted here "let the rollercoaster ride begin " ,sorry to say but the rollercoaster ride began the day Tan took over.also i agree some players will leave in january but so they should, get rid of anyone that cant play for us with pride and passion.

Don't apologise. it;s a good post.

before he came to us Malky had a brief and not outstanding run with Watford... nothing shiningly beautiful until he got us to the Prem (whether you like it or not that includes investments made by Tan)

I just wish people would give him time and not decide to denounce him before he's even been appointed.

Hes been given the job because he has agreed to let Tan and no one son pick the team. Complete madness...

Very true although malky was interviewed by Alan and co. and came through really well, we interviewed a number of candidates first ruling out certain people... We are just jumping in here with two feet!

I will support the next manager but the appointment makes no sense at all.
The next manager coming in faces a shit or bust situation and would have been so much easier to do with someone who has been there and done it already. Missed opportunity with Pullis available :o

I think Slade is just what we need right now, I'm sure he'll get the best out of our squad. We've got some very talented players but most of them are lacking motivation at the moment and their heads are down, Slade will sort them out I'm sure. He has my full support - onwards and upwards!! :)

just a thought, many complaints about having a league 1 manager as our manager, but unless we start performing as a team we will be a league 1 team.i read a lot about slade and think he will give his all, whether or not good enough ,thats to be seen.im backing him cos he deserves a chance

I think you could do far worse than Slade, in league one last season Leyton Orient were probably the 2nd best team after Wolves that I saw, they played a high tempo passing football and he built the team with very little money.
When we appointed Kenny Jackett many of our fans were disappointed and not fully behind him, now he's shown us what he's about the fans love him down there.
Hope it works out for you and I think he'll do a good job, has learned his trade in the lower leagues and deserves a bigger job IMO.

Interesting! KJ has done a great job at Wolves, as he did at Millwall and Swansea. Slade sounds just like the sort of down to earth manager that the players, and fans, need.'High tempo, passing football'? That's exactly what we need. OGS has left us well and truly in it. The last thing we need is another celebrity. Forget promotion, we need to stabilise befor Christmas, and take it from there.

Thought that Wolves were terriffic recently. Great stmosphere at Molineux, too.

Essentially what I was going to say. Two years ago we finished above MK Dons, last season we got into the play offs and MK Dons didn't... MK Dons prior to this season have had more financial muscle than us. Never really got the whole Karl Robinson love in.

Leyton Orient confirm Russell Slade resignation

By Mark Langshaw, Reporter

Last Updated: Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at 23:26 UK
Leyton Orient manager Russell Slade has handed in his resignation, the club have confirmed.

The Os boss attempted to hand in his notice after his employers rejected an approach for his services from Championship outfit Cardiff City.

The club issued a statement on Wednesday confirming that Slade has offered his resignation, and are now considering their response.

"The chairman and the CEO of Leyton Orient have received a resignation letter from Russell Slade a few minutes ago," said the Orient hierarchy.

"This has not happened by chance after the club rejected this afternoon, a proposal from the general manager of Cardiff City regarding the transfer of Russell Slade. The lawyers of the club are now studying the file."

Orient currently sit in 17th place in League One.
