If this is true I'm gutted. Had optimism after today's performance - ok we didn't win but showed some fight against a well drilled Derby. Slade is not the man to take us forward. Can't believe this but I'd actually now welcome Dave Jones back as at least he'd show some direction . Is Tan completely stupid ? What's needed is fight and appetite not a quick, cheap fix. I'd personally carry Pulis to CCS but understand that he's not Tan's man. Instead we'll be set up with a nobody whose only saving grace is that he's cheap and prepared to be told by Tan how to manage - heaven help us !!!!

Russell Slade: Wanted by Cardiff

Leyton Orient manager Russell Slade is being targeted by Championship side Cardiff as the replacement for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Slade, who was himself threatened with the axe a week ago, saw his League One side make it four points from two away games this week with a 2-1 victory at struggling Scunthorpe thanks to goals from Scott Cuthbert and Jobi McAnuff.

And the former Yeovil boss has left the door wide open for Cardiff to end his four-year reign with the O's.

"I believe there has been an approach from Cardiff," confirmed Slade. "But I am a little in the dark at to what response there has been to that from my club.

"Obviously it is nice for me to be linked with a huge club like Cardiff. It is nice too to know that they have noticed the good work we have been doing here.

"I have had four happy years at Orient and have always given my everything for this club.

"And it has been a big, big week for the club after collecting four points from the last two away games."

Orient were beaten finalists in last year's play-offs, losing out on penalties to Brentford, and Slade believes after a slow start to the campaign, they can get there again.

"Obviously there is a lot of very hard work to do but I believe this group of players can finish in the top six again," he insisted.

"I was delighted with them. We created lots of chances and could have won by a bigger margin.

"Our away form is very good, but we have now got to start to do better at home."

A 49th-minute goal from midfield man Matt Sparrow was not enough to save Scunthorpe from defeat - or a tongue-lashing from manager Russ Wilcox.

"Conceding cheap goals has been our Achilles heel all season and we have conceded two more here," he groaned.

"There have been a few home truths said in the dressing room. We have to do better than this."

Scunthorpe are dogged by inconsistency this season, much to their manager's frustration.

He asked: "How can a team who played so well to beat Coventry on Tuesday night, play so poorly here?

"We wanted to get of to a good start to keep the confidence of the players and belief of the supporters.

"But we concede an early goal and that makes it difficult again for us.

"The number of goals we have conceded this season is a real concern and something we will have to address."

Wilcox, who set a record 28-match unbeaten run in charge of Scunthorpe when he took over last November, knows that he too could soon come under pressure if their results do not improve.

"I have been in football a long time and I have seen these times before," he added.

"All you can do is have belief in yourself and your staff and keep working hard.

"As for my own position here, of course I want to stay but I am not the one who will decide that."

well he's bounced in and out of the network mainly in the lower leagues to sides like notts county , sheffield utd ,grimsby and brighton .

Yes. To be honest he's a great manager and has an eye for talent and is his own man but think that'll be an issue with yes (Tan) man.

If Tan keeps his nose out and allow Slade to get on with it then can see him doing well for you. Slade must be wanking himself silly knowing that he is in charge of a talented squad and that no one will be sold.

Poor sod, every club he's manged and built a great side then only to see the talent sold beneath him. I wish him well and think you'll be surprised by him.

He's not a tinkerman, he'll play one way and he'll not be a rotating man either. He'll pick his best 11 and that'll be it. Not like our clueless manager who loves rotating and does 5-6 changes a game. bloody clueless.

I wouldn't be exactly overjoyed as I think there are, dare I say higher profile managers available!! But I can honestly say high profiles don't exactly make good managers, OGS was high profile and IMO terrible for us. Against Boro we played 3 different formations and the players devoid of ideas and leadership. The players looked like they never wanted the ball as they didn't know what to do with it and their confidence was destroyed, so I'm glad OGS has gone and if it's Slade he'll get my support. And I pray that Tan will finally get something right!!!

Remember nobody knew who the f**k Malky was when he become manager ! Great Appointment ! I just hope all large majority of all fans back him !

20 yrs managing in the 3rd tier or lower... I'm not convinced...... Poor appointment if this is correct and shows a clear lack of ambition to return to the prem league...

I hope he brings Mason on ! He likes to develop his own talent ! He plays attacking football and does not tinker like f**k with the team ! Ole used to try and keep everyone happy ! Big Russ won't take no shit ! Great Appointment
