And yet you say nothing regarding the poor surface on which the players played. Strange

He is effing useless, fair play.
Bale is on a different planet......thank feck!
It wasn't 5 defenders, though, was it? It was 3. Had we played a flat back four, no one would have batted an eyelid. And it would've been one more than we played tonight.

If we had a flat back four the full backs would have pushed forward 2 support the midfield. As it was we stuck with 3 centre backs when Andorra played without a striker most of the time and put 11 men behind the ball. Couldn't believe he didn't see this and change things. That as well as taking our only striker off, who is decent in the air, when we looked more dangerous from crosses than anything else. Hoping for a big improvement in the 2 home games as Cyprus beating Bosnia has put this group in our hands.

We got out of jail there with the result.
I'm really sorry, and this is not an excuse, but that playing surface was the worst I can remember seeing (including flooded Conference League pitches). They had saturated the area with rubber crumb, unevenly according to the reporter. This resulted in the ball needing a lot more weight to each pass, but then occasionaly, it went off course or bounced erratically.
Coleman set the team up weirdly too, which didn't help. I understand trying to use all the best players, but this 3/5 at the back would be better against a dynamic, skilful side. Would have preferred a flooded midfield. (3 5 2 maybe).
Must improve!

And so did Andorra have to play on the same surface, strange that, we are talking about Andorra are we not?

It wasn't a great performance but a wins a win. The pitch does make a difference the same as the millennium pitch used to bring good passing teams down to our level a few years back. My main worry I have with Coleman is how long it took him to change the tactics that were clearly not effective. He is very hampered by not having at least one quality front man. That's not meant to be disrespective to church or vokes who both try hard but the ball didn't stick at all and that is a major concern when we come up against better quality opposition. That said it's points on the board and hopefully it's just a bad day at the office

Yes they did have to play on the same surface but the point is that when a surface is so awful it takes away the skill factor from the better team. It was impossible to run with the ball and passing was much more difficult to judge than normal. This affected our game much more than Andorra's and brought us down to their level. We would have been much better off pushing more men forward and hitting long balls into their box than trying to play football on that pitch. Coleman's formation didn't help as already said by many.

toshack used to play the same way, with 3 centre backs, passing it about the back then lumping it forward. people talk about 3 man defences as if its a new fad, but toshack was playing it, and got us to 120 odd ranking in the world.
the problem is it was more like a 5 man defence, and why be so defensive against an amateur team? it really does beggar belief how unambitious and incompetent coleman is.
coleman has got players like ashley williams used to passing it out the back, playing long balls to a £85m real madrid winger? there were 7 PL players out there and one for real madrid, the rest were championship players. up against plumbers and candle stick makers.

Coleman was always going to get stick after this game as given the situation of the pitch it was always going to be a much tougher game than many expected. Going down a goal made it a lot tougher and there wasn't really anything Coleman could have done about that, it's not like Andorra ever threatened us due to the way we set up.
Say what you like about Coleman but we've ultimately come away with an important victory, and if the likes of Cyprus, Bosnia and Israel have to go their in similar circumstances then I can see Andorra picking up a point or two.
As for goal difference, it's pretty much irrelevant as head to head is used to decide group position if points are level.

After watching the last few Wales games at home & following our draw with Belgium, I felt that we may have turned a corner as we were playing some decent football under CoCo. I'm not a fan of Coleman but I thought he maybe now just could get us clicking after seeing the latter performances. But, I'm afraid that the more that I see (and read) about the guy, I feel my gut instinct was right and he's a clown. OK, last night the pitch was beyond farcical but tactically, and with the amount of talent he has at his disposal, it came down to relying on one man. Its Andorra FFS, who's entire population would fit into the Millennium Stadium. These are the 5-1 nailed-on games. I know that we've always had a problem with making the team perform to the level of its parts but that's a managers job, end of. We could see it beginning to gel under Speedo (RIP) so we know breaking the performance hex is possible and especially now with the quality we have. The FAW need to cut their losses quickly and get Pulis in. I'd take that in a heartbeat and let CoCo the Clown get on with his main priority in life, which appears to be mainly shagging anything that has a pulse.
