He is probably not basing it on that, but on 10 in 10 last year in a poor Brum team, pre season and last night, he will be right up there.

The only problem for our strikers, is that they have competition for places, so probably won't play as many games as Deeny and Rhodes who are tipped to be the best this season.....

don't forget his 8 substitute appearances. I'm afraid i would rate your other strikers as better than macheda, but then thats just me.

your right, if fit i would expect deeney to start every league game. he is however ably backed up forestieri and vydra.

True you have three good strikers, underestimate Mechada at your peril though  , we have four really good strikers and Maynard and Mason on loan are decent.....

I think Mechada is right up for this season .... viewtopic.php?f=2&t=146572

oh no don't get me wrong, I'm certainly not underestimating him. i just don't think he is as good as someone like rhodes, or even le fondre.

being biased, i would think that our strike force is better than yours. but then i would fully expect any other promotion challenging team to say the same about their team in my position at this stage of the season.

it will be interesting to dee how it pans out.

Wonder what you offered Deeney in the contract, I reckon it's signs of desperation in it.

He scored 10 in 18 at a struggling Birmingham, 8 appearances as a sub. He struggled after bursting onto the scene as a youngster (maybe thought he had made it already) but seems to have got his head down again. He has excellent potential and I have a gut feeling he is going to be excellent.

As for Deeney and Rhodes, I would take Deeney over Rhodes. On the few times I have seen Rhodes play I haven't been overly impressed.

I think Maynard will leave, with Macheda and Guerra being our main strikers and Jones and Le Fondre off the bench.

Personally I wouldn't swap our strike force with anyone else in the Championship, although Deeney and Vydra could be excellent

Yer its an interesting one. Apparently initially it was going to be a 3 year contract, but on the basis of some extras requested by Deeney the club have made it a four year contract. I highly suspect it has probably made him our top earner, but I really don't think we will be paying extortionate wages. I highly suspect there is a large bonus for getting promotion to the premier league.

As for our seasons prospects, if we had lost Deeney then I really would not have fancied our chances of promotion. Keeping him is absolutely huge for us.

Very fair assessment. A lot of you cardiff chaps are very level headed. :ayatollah:

Deeney's performance today epitomised why he is such a key player for us. Scored a goal, led the line brilliantly and got the fans going to keep us in it at the end.

I see you are currently continuing to struggle to find the net? Where was Le Fondre playing today? In the middle or out wide?

Sorry to bump an old thread....but i still think Deeney, Vydra and Ighalo is the best strike force in the championship. I know yours have been misfiring this season, genuinely hope things get better for you guys last year. Im fond of cardiff and have had some great away days there.

Surprised nobody has mentioned Murphy at Ipswich (23 goals so far)

If I had to pick one it would be Deeney. He's been consistently effective for 3-4 years now. If Watford don't go up I can see a bottom half premier team picking him up. Pal-arse for example.

This was made before the season started. Even Ipswich fans didn't rate him then, they rated McGoldrick as they're best striker.

I said you had the best attacking threat since the start, and I stand by it. Ighalo has really surprised me, Deeney's bang in form at the moment. I'd probably say Deeney is the best striker in the Championship overall, Rhodes is the best finisher. If I had ot go for one I'd go for Deeney for the strength and workrate over Rhodes.

my biggest concern is losing deeney if we do not go up. one of the best strikers in our history, and i agree someone will take a gamble on him. i actually quite like the championship, but if we want to keep our best players then we have to go up.

He's out on loan to Malaga, our manager didn't like him and never played him. When Slade took over, he was assistant and I'm guessing he had something to do with Guerra not playing. He's good enough for 7th in La Liga, but not a mid table Championship club, shocking. When he played for us, he looked good as well.

Gutted Guerra didn't get a chance. Macheda has been poor but scores goals. Jones our top scorer but struggles to last more than 60 mins. Le Fondre didn't suit us but worked hard.
