Berget has found his level, pure and simple. Scots Prem and top end of the Championship is a BIG difference. :thumbright:

Not really, top 3-4 teams could survive the championship and Celtic would fight for promotion. The rest are rubbish L1 standard sure, but Dundee are not one of them. Berget looked better than Maynard all preseason, better than Mason, maybe even better than ALF.

Maynard has a speed advantage, but in every other category Berget is better. Berget is stronger, jumps higher, more stamina, better work rate, anticipation, first touch, passing, crossing and finishing.

Berget needed first team football every week at this point.

Well, at least Ole seems to disagree with that :p

Hehe, you make up your opinion about players based on 2 minutes highlights? Personally, I have no idea how Berget would have done it for us this season, as I´ve hardly seen him in a Cardiff kit.

On the contrary, I don't know many managers who'd buy players they don't believe in twice at two different clubs. Berget needed regular first team football at a critical age and with consecutive seasons behind him where he did not get that due to injuries and squad congestion. Ole couldn't guarantee him enough football, so he went on loan to avoid rotting. This is REALLY common and should not surprise anyone really.

Berget obviously also wants to make the Norwegian national side for the upcoming qualifiers, and with the lack of good striking options for Norway, that is more likely than ever.

The only thing is Hankerchief, Celtic have the option to buy now, so this is likely to be a permanent move away from CCFC at Xmas if he builds on Saturday's performance.

You have always had added insight on Berget as you have seen him play in Norway so I respect your opinion when you say he may be better than what we currently have.

But I feel Ole saw an opportunity to improve (in his opinion) further this summer and bring in Macheda, Guerra and ALF - two of which have successful Championship experience. Also I don't think Ole anticipated that Maynard would look so good in pre-season and perhaps had pre-conceptions that he would leave?

As you say, Berget will get the chance to play the amount of games in Scotland that he won't get here. Good luck to him and hope he continues to prove himself.

You're getting Dundee mixed up with Dundee United. Dundee United are one of the better teams in the league; Dundee, the team Berget scored 2 against, only got promoted last season and aren't very good.

My bad, they actually played against Dundee United, I thought they were the only Dundee so I shortened it. They did not play against the newly promoted one.

Actually I would take the blame for that mix-up. Dundee United it was, not Dundee as I wrote in the head post. Just shows my insight in Scottish football

Dundee is expected to be the runner-up this season, but sure, it´s not PL or Bundesliga. Would be interesting to see him in CL, though.

It was Dundee United & until a few days ago they were not being tipped to be runner up - and after yesterday they'll need to do plenty to even challenge for top 3

So that went well!
