Maynard was quiet, not suee what he contributed? Marshall should have done better with the goal and he was out of position a couple of times, on crosses, Hudson and Connelly are decent CBs in the Championship, as they have shown tonight. Fabio, is very clever, but plays himself into holes. I was surprised that we didn't get hold of the ball better, but I can see that OGS wants to move the ball quickly, that will come with more games together, the future is bright

spot on
yeah bang on mate

Thought Le Fondre & Maynard were ineffective, forgot Whittingham was on the pitch in the second half until he made a late tackle.

This is where i see a problem when we are attacking L to R. Just seems to be a gapping hole in the middle at times, like the team is split into 5 all in defense 5 all up front.
When we lose possession, they make up alot of yards. If our back 4/5 get the ball back, then they HAVE to go long to reach our forwards.
But its a good away point, i thought Blackburn were solid but unspectacular same with us, although we did a few times look really good going forward.
I honestly didn't know Maynard started...
This is spot on....

Happy with a draw though away from home, good start
We started with 3 up front Nicky Maynard, Kenwyne Jones and Le fondre, Ole went for the 3pts.
If I am honest I have always slagged Kenwyne Jones down, but fair play in the first half he looked fit, up for it and had two good headers and scored and with his head , plus he won every header
In my opinion Whitts gave away the ball and Blackburn scored a super goal.
1-1 half-time I thought was a fair score line.
I thought Kenwyne was quite in the second half, bit still won his headers and was substituted ,but fair play he certainly proved me wrong.
I thought Maynard had a very quite game and Le Fondre worked hard.
I thought our defence looked good and tight and worked hard, Hudson gave his all
Fabio played well.
I thought Blackburn were not what I expected and were ok,nothing special.
Good result
My man of the match Kenwyne Jones

Ole's comment at end, not a pretty game, but my players battled,Hudson and Connolly played well, " WE NEED A CENTRE BACK "
Ole also said " we would take a point,no one should doubt our team spirit " ole:
We didn't play 3 up front. Fondre did a job out wide. (I hope this isn't the trend for the season, easy option)!
We were very comfortable at 0-1, confident, we knew our jobs. After we conceded, we were nervous! It was though they knew how important a result was to Ole. Come on, the media would av pounced, and half of us would av!!
Ok, work in progress. Balance not there at mo, centre park looks fragile, needing natural width but, good on Ole and the lads. If ever a goal come at the wrong time, it was then! <0>

Decent result, Blackburn away is never an easy game.
Fri Aug 08, 2014 10:47 pm
First game of the season means very little. Look at Yeovil. Won the first game last season then went down. Bournemouth lost 6-1 first day and had a decent season.
A draw away is ok, and to a good side with a premiership striker (Rhodes)
As long as we win our first home game. That's the important one going forward.
Draws away and wins at home get you promoted.

I thought that Ole made a mistake playing three out and out strikers. On the face of it it looks a real attacking line up but because we had no width in midfield we ended up with Le Fondre having to spend most of his time tracking back to help his fullback. Also with KWJ as a target man it meant that Le Fondre and Maynard were playing either side of him and subsequently were too far apart from each other. In the Wolfsberg game when they played as a pair of strikers they operated close together and were quite effective, always looking to find each other with passes or trying to set one another up.
I was very disappointed that we struggled to move the ball around. We looked one paced, struggled to find our men as no one seemed to be moving into space and offering themselves for the ball. The defence looked quite solid though even if they did struggle to cope with Rudy in the air on times and I thought that Adeyemi looked good when he came on.
Not a bad point overall but we didn't play well and need to improve a lot if we are to challenge this season.

Doesn't fill me with confidence at all tbh

From a neutral point of view, it wasn't a great game.
Cardiff started well, and Kenwyne Jones looked dangerous. Blackburn came back into the game well, and I thought if anyone was going to win in the second half it was probably going to be them. However the quality throughout was poor, and the game seemed to lack a bit of bite to it, a bit surprising for a season opener.
Not sure why Le Fondre was played so wide? He is a poacher or nothing right?

We'll be ok. Thanks for your concern though.

Iritatingly didn't see the whole match because of family stuff that i had to tend to.

But from what i saw we need more steel. Dikgacoi and Adeyemi needs to be brought up to speed asap, Gunnar doesn't offer enough physically and he gives the ball away easily. Lefondre worked hard but i don't think he should be played in that position. Jones bullied their defense and looked good, could be a very important player. Maynard i can't remember seeing him do much. Anonymous for me. Fabio ,Brayford and connolly very good match. Hudson also looked ok. Whitts not the best match from him and made an error that proved costly. Daehli struggled to get into the game. As others have mentioned, Blackburn actually seem to have done their homework and soon as he got the ball he had two players one him. This is a new test for him, he needs to get to grips with the physicality in this league and he needs to get used to being marked.
On the negative : a tendency from some of our players to play hoof ball and an inability to run in to position and as a result our passing went out the window. Blackburn had something like 70% possession by the end. There was stretches of the match where we seemed to be playing long ball. Another reason i think certain players struggled to make an impact you will never get the best out of players like small technical players like Daehli or a playmakers like Whitts if you play long ball. They are not suited for it.
And generally thats something i thought i wouldn't see from a team managed by Ole. So that was a bit of a disappointment.
In general though i must say i am happy with a point. We looked the best team in the first half but in the second half i felt blackburn could have easily nicked it. Pleased to see Ole seems to have developed a more cynical streak. Last season he would have gone all out attack all the way and lost the point in closing minutes.

I am looking forward to the next match.

Fabio was brilliant and well done to all the defense, I think they surprised us all tonight. The front 3 was not as effective as I had expected, except for Kenwynne's performance, but in fairness they had no delivery from an embarrassing midfield. In fairness Gunnarsson did improve later on after a poor start and Tom Adeyemi looks like he could be a really useful player for us when he is up to speed. However, Daehli disappointed me and Whittingham as usual was below par. He was at fault for the Blackburn goal. The midfield Ole put out tonight lacks balance, cohesiveness, energy and flair. I can see this becoming a massive problem for us unless Ole addresses this early doors. At the moment, our weak link is Ole's midfield combination.

good result happy with a point but the midfield boys need to play a lot better we just couldn't keep the ball
Sat Aug 09, 2014 6:45 am
Fabio was outstanding, I just cannot understand the haters??
LeFondre needs to play up top for me. Jones was also very effective first half. Maynard was not in the game, and personally I would have gone with the wolf out wide and LeFondre up top with jones.
Point away first game though, more than happy after the circus of last season. Good to see Ole realising points mean promotion and grinding it out.

I'm not a massive Fabio fan, as he always looks to have a mistake in him, however last night I thought his defensive game was good, what he does is keep niggling at players, not giving them a moments rest and being quick he will keep pace with most wingers in this league
Sat Aug 09, 2014 7:19 am
We shouldnt play with 3 natural strikers - end of.If you play with 3 up front you need to play wide men not goalscorers with back up in midfield. In this division you need to play 2 up front with 4 midfielders with more bite in the middle.
Sat Aug 09, 2014 7:42 am
It could be a good point by the end of the season especially with the injuries we've had as well. Not every team comes flying out of the traps but in saying that we looked better in the first half hour. I thought adeymi looked up for it when he came on and is something we need in the middle where I thought we were outmuscled.
It could have been a lot worse and not really surprised at performance and result. Long way to go get the players fit and be clear with what shape and formation and we won't be far away.
Sat Aug 09, 2014 8:07 am
Considering one third of our first 18 were missing through injury or suspension, I think a point at Blackburn is was a very good result.
Sat Aug 09, 2014 8:59 am
I was disappointed at how we gave the ball away so frequently and didn't press the ball. Hoofball 1st game of the season. They were nothing special and yet had 70 odd percent of the ball. Blackburn found space - pass and move whilst we found it hard to keep it on the deck and string 3-4 passes together. With Turner not being there to blame I can only think they were instructed to go long to Jones by Ole? With Le Fondre's goal threat nullified by being hopelessly played as a defensive midfielder (quote: asked to do a job) and Maynard (did he actually touch the ball?) ineffective. Even Marshall was poor. Flapped at a couple, got himself out of position and looked shaky.
The new lad from Brum looked decent and thought Burgerseller made a difference.
My main concern however is our manager himself. Next time Ole, 2 up top please...

Good away point but basically OGS was true to form & his tactics were all over the place.
4-3-3 is alright but he used the wrong players for it. Le Fondre is a poacher/goal scorer & because he was on the right of a 3 spent half his time in the right back position.
Early days though & it will take a few games to settle (hopefully).
When fit I think he needs to play Dikacoi & Adeyemi in the middle.
The people saying Fabio was poor must have been watching eastenders or something on the other side.
Sat Aug 09, 2014 10:19 am
I think the main thing is we didn't lose maybe the team needs a little time to gel together? But if we're still playing like that after half a dozen games or and not picking up decent results so I think the knives will soon be coming out.

Think you are being a tad hard on whitts he didn't have a great game but i can't understand why people act like he is always shit and then find redeeming qualities in gunnarson who is supposed to be our hard man yet hardly does any successful tackles or interceptions, lacks pace, bad on the ball and lacks positional sense. We need a hard man in midfield that reads the game well, can break up opposition play, pass adequately (so we can actually string a few passes together) and impose himself on the match offer creative players like whitts protection. Whitts was kicked to bits yesterday. Even Scholes would never had been as good as he was if he didn't have Keane doing the dirty work next to him. Every good team has that player next to the creative flair players.
Also don't get Oles tactics. Total misuse of some players especially Lefondre and Mats. Both of them were forced to spent so much time defending it looked like they were playing full backs at times. Mats is at his best when he has freedom to roam and cut inside. Yesterday it looked as if he was asked to hog the touchline and stay out wide like a traditional winger. Lefondre is best when sniffing around the opposition penalty area instead he was bogged down with defensive duties. Ole nullified two of our most potent attacking components with his strange tactics.
Ole needs to get his tactics right and generally we are in dire need of the players that can control and dominate in central midfield so that the so called attacking flair players can focus on whats meant to be their job. The sooner we get dikgacoi and adeyemi in the mix the better.

You seem to forget that football is about play and counter-play. We also managed to nullify their most potent attacking components, hence we were able to dig out a result from one of the seasons most difficult away matches. Cheer up, we´re on top of the table

Good first half , struggled second half but with Noone , dikgacoi to come in and a new cb I have highs this seasons ..

Our problem last night was how our centre mids were absolute shithouses. I never want to see Gunnarsson near the squad. When KG is fully fit it will be a blessing in disguise, him and Adeyemi will be a great partnership. All in all it was an adventurous formation, although it didn't give us three points, it gave us a point away at a team unbeaten in eleven games and a team who were two points off the play-offs.

Fair points. But still think ole got tactics wrong. If you are gonna play a 3 man midfield you need 2 of them to be ball winners. Or you will get overrun in the middle of the park which is exactly what happened. Whitts and matts are not ball winners. Hopefully next time ole plays that formation dikgacoi will be fit to play alongside adeyemi. What's wrong with dikgacoi injury or not match fit?
Sat Aug 09, 2014 1:04 pm
KJ was a stand-out player for me. Whatever his critics (me included) have said in the past, he blew that out of the water last night. If I'm honest, disappointed with a draw but as soon as all of our strike force adjust their sights, we will be flying IMO.
Fabio was good too. Don't know why anyone would target him for criticism.
Onwards and upwards
