sometimes things happen that you just can not get out of your head........and its different things effect different people..
ideal world of course, you pay a fortune ,you get the players very best.......but life just isnt like that.

I've said all along Medel is class. His WC performance didn't convince some. Now we have some sort of reason for his dip in form January on. I knew Malky's departure had unsettled him!

However, I think the damage may well be done as he may not want to play for us anymore. If that's the case, push for a high fee.

I don't agree with keeping a player against his will as that will backfire on everyone but if he hasn't got a release clause and the clubs chasing him don't meet our valuation then it is a tricky one for our club.
As for his performances it was obvious he didn't live up to the hype but there were isolated glimpses of his talent and agree with the posters who say about the standard around him. Would rather him stay but only if he wants to fight for our club otherwise Tara.

If this latest rumour is true about the possibility of Medel staying another season, then personally if that happens the bookies making us clear ante post favourites for going straight back up will be justified

Medel post Christmas has received some justified criticism ( I've joined in with it at times), but there was i believe around the time of Malkys departure major problems for Gary Medel in regards to his personal life. Allegedly there was a lengthy time when he wasn't allowed to see his children. I'm not defending him 100% but if this was true then his remarkable drop in form could be interpreted in different ways. He's in a foreign land where he can't speak the language, the manager who brought him to the club has been fired and he's not allowed any contact with his loved ones. If all that was true, then it doesn't matter how much money you're on, as you saw in the World Cup, the guy has a huge heart and domestic issues are coped with differently for everyone

I'd love a chance for us to keep him. When his head was right he was the best footballer this club has ever seen. International class of the highest level, as we witnessed in Brazil

You don't mean that, surely... best footballer the club has ever seen??

Off the top of my head I can name Jason Koumas in his prime as being a better footballer than Medel. I could name players with bigger hearts than Gary Medel... Phil Stant and Jason Perry, for instance.

I've been following the City since 1968 and Gary Medel doesn't even make it into the top 20 based on his performances for us.

His form might have deteriorated somewhat after Christmas but when you're playing with inferior players around you then your form is bound to be dragged down, just look at what he did in the World Cup, says it all.

Bang on the money Blue Steel. Apart from Daehli, Medel was playing with a very mediocre set of midfielders last season. This year,Mutch and Noone are likely to have more of an impact in the lower division. Medel is light years ahead of anyone we've ever signed but he's not superhuman. When he's playing alongside poor players its cetain his morale and performance will suffer.

If Medel stays, and I hope he does, then assuming we dont sign Fonte, this is the lineup I'd like to see start at Blackburn:

Marshall
Brayford
Turner
Cala
Fabio
Medel
Digakoi
Mutch
Daehli
Macheda
Guerra
(Noone being injured)

I think that line up might solve our defensive instability while providing plenty of attacking optiions

Medel and Digakoi play the same kind of role - so Burgstaller would come in for one of them.

Fonte
Fabio

Noone
Medel

What a team that would be in this league

Agree, except I'd have to find a place for Burgstaller. I think he'll be great for us this season.

It certainly looked like he cared when we got the equalizer at West Brom. He oozes quality at times, but also tbf, he did give it away sloppily on a few occasions. :bluescarf:

Dani Osvaldo makes 23 appearances last season scoring 4goals between Southampton and Juventus on loan which for a striker is a bit of a flop yet Inter Milan are paying £13m to Southampton for him yet a player like Medel who was pretty good most of last season and had a class world cup they only offer £4m and £1m up front something aint right with the heads of their negotiation team clearly

Whether people want to accept it or not I feel Malkys departure unsettled a few players at the time

Yes probably did but so did his tacticts and player choice mutch hudson ect all overlooked most season. Plus players out of position, plus choosing ole at that time all went towards our demise.
