Cala wasn't awful in the Premier League. In fact, if we'd have stayed up I'd have been happy keeping him on our books. He could have a great season in the Championship this year.

watch what you are saying people will call you clueless, but I agree with you also think back to the hull game where he just stood off their player allowing get a free header think it was the striker they signed from Everton

Thought Cala was decent enough.

Re: Cala

Cala is a poor mans David Luiz. Great technical ability for a centre back, can chip in with goals but can also drop clangers defensively! Would like to see him given a try as a holding midfielder. I would rather us field defenders who can actually defend personally.

Fabio was only a slight improvement defensively. I would of put Cala in. I know he lacked pace, but would of been more aware of dangerous situations and alot more cynical!!!

Declan isn't great a defending yet but the problem on the left was also the problem with the winger in front who is not that disciplined in tracking back ( noone- probably why the defensively minded malky was reluctant to play him).
I can't remember which poster said it but it was pointed out that it wasn't a coincidence that Fabio became noticeably better when he had daehli in front of him.

At the end of the campaign the left side was the the best side. It was the right side with ktc everyone was having at him instead. Ogs needs to pair the right winger with the right FB. Declan should have his chance to play but make sure the winger is maybe someone like burgstaller that can defend.

Seems you're in the minority here bin. No doubt we'll come back to this post during the season and u can admit you got it wrong. Cala will be more than fine :ayatollah:

Yeah he dropped a clan get but he also took one for the team to try to prevent a goal, sometimes it goes your way sometimes it don't look at qpr in playoff final. As Grangeendstar said his passion and desire shone out for me, shame all players can't play with that same passion. I think we got a class defender who will excellent at championship level.

Spot-on, enjoyed reading that,  The balance of the team was not right last season. The best players in the country were definitely targeting our fullbacks. KTC would be an attacker's dream the way he allows players to run in behind him!

Interesting to see what Ole does with KTC this season. I prefer McNaughton & giving Brayford the chance to show what he was bought for. :bluescarf: :bluescarf:

Bit harsh to judge him on one game, when he was very good on most other occasions and IMO, class!

Also to bracket him with Andy Jordan and Rhys Weston is a heads gone IMO! :)

Would possibly have been spot on, had he not named Noone as playing on the left in front of Declan John, as Noone played predominantly on the right when he was fit! ;)

Be interesting to see where Burgstaller plays as well, as I believe he can operate on either flank!

I think he would make a great DM. Can tackle and a good distributor and able to carry the ball from deep positions. :bluescarf:

Anyone having a pop at Cala about the Sunderland game clearly has selective memory or only watches on the TV.

I can't say I am 100% convinced but his games against Everton (where he scored and was outstanding defensively) and Southampton (same again !!) gave me enough to think that now he is aclimatised to British football he could be the ball playing CB OGS obviously is looking for.

One thing is for sure, he has massive passion and was virtually in tears at the end of the Everton game. Much too soon to write him off in my opinion.

Re: Cala

Cala made one huge and costly blunder in a critical game, but other than that he was more often your best player in the entire squad ever since he first played. This is coming from a neutral observer. Be thankful, Cala will be great for you.

He's a good player with passion and he doesn't mind getting stuck into a challenge. Give him a chance, remember he got thrown into a side on a quick decline, in and out of the team with a new full back next to him almost every time and still done well a few mistakes aside

Of course I will give him a chance and I hope he proves me wrong and I will come on here and say I got it wrong
