If you can't appreciate the work Cowie put in for us then you are an utter tool.

i agree, why can't people say thanks for your efforts and good luck to the future is beyond me.

Obviously Cowie is at an age that he needs regular football and maybe we could not offer him that.

Good luck Don, wherever you go.

Two good replies to Aramore (who constantly shows himself up on here).

I fear the loss of Cowie will hurt us a lot more than people think, as he was our one midfielder who is guaranteed to cover every blade of grass and do the unselfish, off the ball work such as tracking runners and picking up loose balls, which is exactly what is needed over a long 46 game slog in the Championship.

Cowie rarely gives the ball away, he doesn't have the pace or dribbling ability to terrorise a full back, but the shift he puts in every game and the quality he has (his cross for Whittingham's goal at Hull for example) would have made him a very important member of the squad this season.

Cowie was always a dependable team player for us and will be missed. Ole has signed some nice, talented footballers, but these players won't be able to utilise their talents without a Don Cowie on the pitch with them this season.

You are being a bit dramatic re his importance a good squad player yes, but not integral.
To be fair you can only blame cowie. He had a new contract on the table for a very long time ogs was very patient with him. If he had wanted to stay on a fight for a spot in the team he could've.

We will see if I'm overly dramatic or not when the season gets under way. At the moment I feel we will be a better version of Peterborough, scoring goals, stuffing some teams but also taking a few big defeats ourselves, because of tactics, lack of work rate, lack of character in the team etc. When the going gets tough in the Championship because of conditions, fixture congestions during the winter, poor pitches etc, our talented footballers like Daehli, Whittingham etc will need players around them willing to bust a gut and do the less glamorous side of the game. Cowie was one player you could rely on for this. I think under Ole, we will lose games next season simply because the opposition are more up for it on the day, wanting it more.

Cowie has all the work rate but not the talent, he is a shit version of James Milner, runs up and down the line whipping in the odd cross that rarely connects just like Milner. Burgstaller and Dikgachoi are both power house workhorses who will more an fill cowies tiny boots.

BBC Thursday 3rd July 2014.

Cardiff City: Scotland international Don Cowie leaves the Bluebirds

Don Cowie is to leave Cardiff City after failing to agree a new contract with the club.
Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had offered the Scotland international midfielder a new contract.
The 31-year-old, joined the Bluebirds in July 2011 having become a free agent on leaving Watford.
He made over 90 appearances for Cardiff, 22 of which came in the 2013-14 season, as they were relegated from the Premier League.

Solskjaer has already signed five players ahead of the 2014-15 season as he looks to guide them to promotion from the Championship at the first attempt.
Two of those are midfielders - Kagisho Dikgacoi from Crystal Palace, and Austrian international Guido Burgstaller from Rapid Vienna.

Glad he's gone tbh never rated him. Yes he has alot of energy before the idiots come out to defend him. But lacks pace, positional sense, Cant tackle, his passing even went astray last season. Last summer i said then I'll say the same now we should of kept Conway and got rid of Cowie as Conway is a much better player

Re: ' Latest on Don Cowie '

It's right that he leaves. Our squad is way way too big. Though Don is a good, honest and hard working player, I don't think he improves us dramatically. It would be nice to have him in the squad but you can say that of a lot of our players. We also need to see this summer if the likes of Eikrem (CDM/CM)and Berget (AM/CF) have what it takes to push their way into the team. Maybe they do? But they need to be given space to force their way in if they are good enough.

It's also time to look to the future. We also need to see if the likes of Ralls and O'Sullivan have what it takes to play at this level or beyond.

These pre-season games should be very interesting.

Can't say I'm gutted he's gone. Wish him all the best though as couldn't fault effort and work rate. :bluescarf:

One of those deals where it didn't matter either way really. He would have been useful to have had as a squad member but it's not the end of the world. Wish him well, he was a total pro when here as far as I could see.

Agree not going to loose any sleep over Cowie going, worked hard and probably went unnoticed but this season he would only make the bench. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Kagisho Dikgaco can do what you call the less glamorous side of the game. And he can do it much better than Cowie.

Good luck Don.Not everyones favorite player, but for me he always put a shift in and gave his all for the club.We have had players with far more talent who were too tired to get out of their own way............so thanks and hope you find a decent club.

I wish Cowie luck and thank him for his efforts for Cardiff City. However, in my opinion to call him 'great' devalues the meaning of the word when applied to much better players. Hardworking - yes. Good - maybe. Great - never.
