Re: ' 4 month ban for Luis Suarez '

What he did was completely unacceptable, and he will be punished for it. I think some people are going a bit over the top with calls for a life ban etc. We've all seen deliberate leg breaking, career ending tackles. Suarez didn't come close to breaking anyone's legs, or ending the career of an opponent. Biting and spitting at someone is pretty disgusting, but I've seen worse like deliberately smashing an elbow into an opponent's face, but these don't usually have people calling for a life ban.

Alan shearer calls for as long a ban as Fifa could hand out ( 2 years). Same Alan Shearer that kicked Niel Lennon in the face. Denied any wrong doing and got NO ban.

Fans of clubs say he is a disgraceful human being. Same fans that idolise the likes of Ryan Giggs ( snagged his sis in law), John Terry ( shags best mates bird), Roy Keane, Eric Cantona, Robbie Fowler, Wayne Rooney or our own golf club wielding Craig Bellamy.

Bit of perspective ppl. He didn't kill anyone. He didn't even hurt anyone. Would all this Suarez bashing happen if he played for Athletico Madrid or a non offensive foreign club like that.

Agreed. Total twerp!

Sorry didn't realise I have to have same opinion as yous. :-)

Intelligent argument though lads

There is no intelligent argument to defend his actions, as your previous post clearly illustrates.

This is the THIRD time he has been caught biting an opponent. I hope LFC show integrity and join FIFA in condemning his disgraceful behaviour. At least the club won't then be tarnished. I feel really sorry for the club, especially as Suarez has been given so much support in the past. I also understand that LFC fans will feel aggrieved to lose his services again, but that doesn't change what has happened.

I bet Brendan Rodgers is gutted after standing firm during the aftermath of the last incident. Suarez is a superb player - world class, but he has let LFC down again.

Comparing the actions of other players who have transgressed in the past is a bit of a red herring. Some things happened off the field and so fall under the responsibility of the law, and others weren't detected and sanctioned.

To underline: Biting is an absolutely disgraceful act and any attempt to condone it is also unacceptable.

(Is that the sort of reasoning you wanted in the first place?) :?:

I don't mean to condone it what I was trying to do was show how hypocritical some of the condemnation has become.

This has become a witch hunt. How can senior fifa officials judge him BEFORE the hearing? Surely fifas vice president saying he has to be banned for a significant period of time has to have an impact on how the hearing goes. That is wrong.

I haven't once said he should or shouldn't be banned. I have spoken about how worse things have been done with smaller bans and much less hype. Suarez did not fix a match, he has not used performance enhancing drugs, he hasn't gone over the top of a ball to break someone's leg or thrown and elbow out into someone's face or throat. All in my opinion are far worse than what he did.

Suarez never had chance of getting fair hearing. And the comments made have been excessive. Again this is just my opinion and I 100 per cent accept other people will have differing opinions.

Btw sorry my last reply was so condescending. It wasn't intended to be.

Apology accepted, no worries

I'll have to agree to disagree on this one.

Part of the problem is the matches being so close together. They had to make at least a provisional decision.

When Suarez was "done" last time, it was during the PL season so more time to play with.

Imagine if he had scored goals for Uruguay , knocked other sides out and then found guilty. A real mess.

I do agree that it is unfortunate, especially if his appeal is successful. A bit like a policeman being suspended if accused of malpractice.

Just my opinion.

You're right, Craig. Can't help feeling that FIFA are simply 'flexing muscles' here and I wonder where they are when some of the potentially career ending tackles are made in games? :?

Not condoning Suarez. He's an idiot for what he did, but there needs to be parity here and this sets a clear precedent for the future (or at least you would think it would)

Yep, I agree whole-heartedly

All I am suggesting is that FIFA have built up their own large Hornets Nest for the future, as any future player who steps seriously out of line MUST now be hauled over the coals (so to speak) or (a) any remaining modicule of credibility will be finally lost, and (b) the litigation monsters will have a field day the first time something ISN'T done regardless of the referees stance on it at the time!

Tackles are part of the game and proving you meant to hurt someone via a bad tackle is hard to prove. Biting is not in anyway part of football and therefore easy to determine he meant to do it.

What annoys me is inconsistencies with FIFA. Suarez got a £66,000 fine for biting whilst Niclas Bendter got £80,000 fine for showing a logo on his boxer shorts during last World Cup. Serbia got about £20,000 fine for racist chanting.......just mental!

34 matches he has been banned for since 2010 and he hasnt even had a red card. Shocking statistic.
