Messi all day long over Super Ego but if we could get into a time warp Crujff and Maradona would be the ultimate pairing with Gerd Muller thrown in for goid measure

Messi. He's the difference between winning and losing, whereas ronaldo is the difference between winning 3-1 to winning 4-1. Ronaldo only performs when the team does, where as messi individually wins you games

What's this about super ego? Messi gets the angelic image because Barcelona were sponsored by UNICEF so are paraded as the angelic team in Spain. Plus he barely goes to the media, but let's not forget Messi has been avoiding his taxes :thumbright:

The ego part as well about Ronaldo. He has a reason to be 'arrogant' considering how hard he's worked to be where he is today. His father was an alcoholic and Ronaldo lost him over the years which hit him hard. The upbringing for Ronaldo was much harder and he has a reason to show off for where he is. Continually training after games to reach where he is. Not to mention the recent news that he shaved a scar in his hair in tribute to the boy he donated 80k for his treatment.

Got hurled abuse for his haircut without the real reason behind it being fully noted.

Ronaldo all day for me, this question is always up for debate for any Football fan. It all comes down to who you enjoy watching and for me it's Ronaldo. The moment he puts the ball down for a free kick you always wanna watch what he does.

Messi is a World Class player, nothing against him.

 Oh come on you can't honestly believe that. He's done it at Man United who never had the quality of players like Barca have and he's done it at Madrid where he has matched Messi every single year.

He also single handedly carried Portugal to this World Cup whilst Messi is only now starting to show how good he is on the international stage.

Ronaldo. He has proven himself against Stoke which is the ultimate test. Messi never moved to the PL because he feared playing Stoke on a cold Tuesday night in December. Ronaldo is the greatest player of all time after Kevin Lisbie. FACT!!

To be honest, pre World cup I would have said Ronaldo.

But, so far this tournament I recon Robben has outshone them all !!!

Horrible attitude and selfish but what a performance so far. - hope its an all European final and a repeat of 1974 - Germany V Holland.

Blooobirds Forever !!! :old:

Messi is the ultimate footballer. Good with his feet, and scores his fair share of headers, when people say that messi hasnt been there and done it. He has won 3 champions leagues, 3 club world cups and god know how many spanish cups. And messis 26. Ronaldos 29

Messi, absolutely no doubt!
He can open a 10 man defence like no one else. :thumbright:

Ronaldo for me. He has more to his game. Messi is a dangerous predator, while Ronaldo is just a plain ultimate machine.

CantonJack what game are you watching?!? Ronaldo has only ever finished with more assists thatn Messi once: this year!!! And it was only one more assist. For those that say Messi can't perform without Iniesta or Xavi: Messi averages more assists a season than either and is always Barca's top goalscorer.

Complete player.
Ronaldo is a fantastic player. Messi is a fantastic footballer.

If you doubt it, check their stats season-on-season: http://messivsronaldo.net/

Messi, easily. As Barca are my 2nd team i have watched all of their games this season. Yes, it is true that Messi has been a bit up and down this season. Especially after Xmas, when he was injured for a few months. Having said that he still managed 40 goals, which is better that everybody else in the world, apart from Ronaldo. I do believe that Messi should have won World Player of the Year, especially when it is based on the season 2012/2013, as he scored more goals than Ronaldo and was slightly better in that season, in my opinion. However, Ronaldo i think fully deserves to be World Player of the Year for the 2013/2014 season, which the winner is always announced in the January of the next season, which is the 2014/2015 season. Which starts in August.

Bloooooobirds.

I don't mean to be a nob but surely you can't truly believe this!
Just watching him again today, his appreciation of space, football intelligence, weight of pass, the way he brings others into the game is on a different realm.
He's an absolute genius and that's without his 2 superb goals today.

He has scored 24 in his last 23 internationals and has a better international goals to games ratio than Ronaldo

Ronaldo for me, seems the more complete package. Not denying that messi maybe the best player in the world on paper, Ronaldo I think is just as naturally gifted as Messi. Very little between them

Are you serious?!!!

Football is a lot more than being fast and being able to jump high!

Ronaldo is a top player but his vision and decision making isn't on the same planet as Messi.
I'd say Messi chooses the right option 9 times out of 10 whereas as Ronaldo does about 4 times out of 10 and this usually results in shooting.
Messi sees a far clearer picture of the game whereas Ronaldo uses his superior athleticism to for so much of his game.
If Ronaldo wasn't quick and strong he wouldn't be half the player he is.

Messi is the best player in the world and will possibly be the best ever but Maradona is still my number one.

Yet Ronaldo averages more assists per season. Ronaldo's pace, power, skills, work rate, everything makes him the best player in the planet. Watching Messi this season he's been shit even before his injuries

Sure about that mate?

2009/2010
Ronaldo, Assists - 7
Messi, Assists - 11

2010/2011
Ronaldo, Assists - 16
Messi, Assists - 22

2011/2012
Ronaldo, Assists - 16
Messi, Assists - 27

2012/2013
Ronaldo, Assists - 14
Messi, Assists - 18

2013/2014
Ronaldo, Assists - 15
Messi, Assists - 14

Ronaldo has accomplished those stats in a comparably weaker side. Put Ronaldo in a Barca shirt and see what he does.

Ronaldo for me, he's actually been at the top of his game no matter what team he plays for, whereas Messi only really does it for Barca, and largely goes missing for Argentina.

24 goals in 23 games does not add up to largely going missing for Argentina.
Ronaldo has been an absolute embarrassment in this world cup. Walking around in a huff cos someone misplaced a pass, not celebrating with team mates when they score cos he wasn't the one who scored it! Pathetic!
Football is a team game, if he wanted to play on his own he should have played tennis.

Ronaldo is the better athlete but Messi is the better footballer by far.

He is not as naturally gifted as messi. He is a product of hard work and dedication. Everyone who worked with him at man utd has said the reason he is the player he is is because he works so hard. Messi is one of those sublimely gifted footballers. What you could say though is that messi has made Ronaldo better. Ronaldo wants to be the best, having messi in his generation spurred him on to be better.
