Newcastle United ponder over a move for Cardiff striker Kenwyne Jones

BY GAVIN MACDONALD ⋅ MAY 19, 2014.

CARDIFF CITY, KENWYNE JONES, NEWCASTLE UNITED

Premier League side Newcastle United have set their sights on Cardiff City striker Kenwyne Jones as a possible candidate to replace the departing Shola Ameobi.

The news has come in just a matter of days after it was announced that Shola Ameobi would bring his 14 year stay at the club to an end when his contract expires in the summer. It is thought that he will join Steve Bruce’s Hull City.

Trinidad & Tobago international Kenwyne Jones is being lined up as his replacement. Jones joined Cardiff in January from Stoke in a deal which saw Peter Odemwingie moving in the opposite direction.

The striker has so far made 11 league appearances for the club whilst scoring one goal.

It is thought that he will be amongst the fringes at the club with their recent signing of Javi Guerra and expected signing of Lewis Grabban from Bournemouth.

If he does decide to join Newcastle, it has been rumoured that it will cost them around £2 million for the striker.

The 29-year old would prove to be an experienced member of the squad having spent numerous years in the Premier League with Stoke City. However, it is unlikely that he would feature as a starting squad member too often.

I hope Kenwyne don't leave Cardiff. He is so good looking and hot. I love his hair and would love to touch it.

Yep. :thumbright: do they? I've not seen anyone expect Jones to play like Campbell.... :laughing5:

As I said, if you thought he played well enough last season, then I'd suggest that it's you that doesnt know your football. :laughing6:

Perhaps they just recognise a good player when they see one who was unfit due to lack of match time when Ole signed him which affected his performances for us!

Theres more to a target man than just being tall. Workrate, positioning, movement, holding the football up, Jones didnt do any of that

I thought he did it quite well considering his lack of match practice, fitness and sharpness

Yes he did actually. Not to perfection like the rest of the fantastic CC players, but he did just as bad as everyone else up front.
Yet "someone" set out to slate Oles signings, and instead of thinking for them self, people like Barney jumped the band wagon.
Take Fabio, same lacking match fitness but was one of the better players the finishing matches. Still labeled as shit signing by most. Band wagon most. If he drops his wages, give him a chance to get match fit, if not let him go

You can read a bit of target man discussion here viewtopic.php?f=2&t=137990&p=1439089&hilit=target+man#p1439089. And check his stats herehttp://www.squawka.com/players/kenw ... ance-score#cardiff-city-(current)#english-barclays-premier-league#8#season-2013/2014#64#all-matches#1-38#by-match

this is too good to be true.

I imagine he would be a hnadful in the championship, but his wages are astronomical, so hes got to go

Didn't say he did play well last season, just notice he is someone we could do with next season..

He rarely partnered a striker up top, find it difficult to criticise our strikers after last season, constant repeat of 1 up top.
