Nothing to be bitter about, he deserved to go.
From what I and others viewpoints while watching the game (including the commentators) was that he changed his mind and pointed to his ear piece.
John Terry has said he went up to the ref and told him that he has to send him off.

Of course it matters. If an opposition player changed the mind of a referee then that is incredibly dangerous.
The fact he should have been booked again is irrelevant.
