The reason we never signed him was because his agent asked for more money (wages) for Montero, and a higher agent fee for himself. He also has image rights. It's far from a straight forward deal to sign him.

We have a history of being stern with agents and it working, you were an easy target for clubs, players and agents to jump on board and ask whatever they wanted - just like QPR last season. 30k a week id imagine, which would fall in line wth our pay structure.

Most players in the Prem have an image rights deal (Trundle had one with us in league 1) so thats not an issue at all.

I think it was a lot more than 30k that he was asking for. I also reckon his agent may want to wait until after the WC to see how he performs. If he does well, a bigger club will probably come knocking. I can't see him signing/agreeing a deal before the WC.

I think he was after 45k, a very high image rights deal and high agents fees.

Although I'd imagine that now his form's tailed off a bit he may lower his demands to a more reasonable level.

He was also constantly linked to Arsenal so I don't know whether he was trying to force an Arsenal bid or whether his agent was trying to force our hand.

He clearly wants to get into the English game, he will never do it of he demands 45k a week. As i said, you guys had a "milking" target on your back in the transfer windows, im sure any negotions with us will be a different proposition.

We have a history of bringing in players on moderate wages weighted heavily in performance bonuses, so he may get his 45k but he has to work for it. Thats the key to getting in players who will be himgry to perform rather than mercenaries who have no need to perform well to pick up their pay cheques.

I think this way of doing things as well as the obvious style of play that has stood us in such good stead over the years... And this type of contract seems very attractive to players. Canas turned down double what we were offering in basic wage from WBA apparently.

You couldn't afford his wages, next ......

How much are his wages for you to know we couldnt afford them?

Or are you just trolling?

You couldn't match Malky in the transfer market, simple as that. Your owner looks for bargain buys only...........

I have no idea what that even means.

And everybody stood there laughing as he handed over £8m for the likes of Cornelius. That isnt blowing anyone out of the water, thats being a mug as was suggested at the time.

Montero saw your club as something he could milk for all its worth due to his ridiculous spending. As I said, negotiations with us will be a completely different matter where money isnt necessarily the driving force and with us, he must work for it.

I am amazed by how some fans almost speak of pride by the way their club is made a fool of by managers and chairman alike.

I think there's a lot more communication between Dalman and Ole which was why we was always looking to secure a deal after another.

Montero you can't blame him, the way he was throwing money over the shop I am quite shocked why we was stubborn with this deal but went for Odemwingie.
