I think you are wrong in that simplistic view. But on the flip side, if we qualify then he also has to go down as one of the most successful Wales managers in history.

Please explain to me who Andorra, Cyprus and Isreal have to note?

If we don't finish above them then it just proves how shit a manager Coleman is.

Israel are no pushovers, but there's no reason not to expect 4 points from them. Yossi Benayoun is still playing for them as is Tal Ben Haim. Dekel Keinan also plays for them although I'm not worried about him.
Bosnia only have 4 or 5 quality players so we can give them a good challenge for 2nd IMO :ayatollah:

Exactly my thoughts should finish 3rd and give Bosnia two close games. By far our best chance of Qualfying pretty awesome draw for us in fact.

Bosnia (2nd worst team in pot 1 only Greece are worse)
Belgium( best team in pot 2)
Israel( worst team in pot 3)
Cyprus( worst team in pot 5)
Andorra( only Sam Marino and Gibraltar are worse in pot 6 Alough all teams in this group should be comftably wins apart from Kazakhstan who are an awkward team to play and much better than the other teams in this group)

I'm confident of qualification from that group, it gives us something to look forward to, given the fact I know we are getting relegated soon.

Because Sam Vokes hasn't scored nearly 20 goals this season, no?

We should be looking to finish 2nd/3rd in this group. Outside of the Bosnia and Belgium games then only Israel away will be tough.

I've defended Coleman but if we fail to qualify for the Euros in 2016 then he is a failure of a manager who should be sacked.

The fact you are openly admitting that our goalscoring hopes rely on Burnleys Sam Vokes of the football league tells you the story. Yes we have Bale and Ramsey as the outstanding players. We then have Williams and Davies who are prominent players in a mid table prem team.... We are then struggling. That is not a good side, 4 players a good side does not make.

Anyway.... my point is two fold.

1) we have had a good group of players many times before. We have never managed to consistantly beat teams worse "on paper" than us - so why is it that Coleman will be singled out as the worst manager? :?

2) if we DO go onto qualify then Coleman will also become the most successful Wales manager in living memory. Correct?

It seems people are happy to criticise him but look for excuses when he deserves praise. In that instance, the critiques are worthless.

I haven't said our goalscoring threat will rely on Vokes. I just pointed out we have a striker who is on form and will surely score against the likes of Andorra if he is on fire in the Championship.

I have never said such a thing. But my thoughts as to why Coleman is heavily criticised over worse managers is because of his links to Swansea, that is obvious. Much like how Williams being captain yet being English is brought up because he plays for Swansea.

Yes of course he would.

My point for him being labelled a failure if we fail to qualify because this group isn't that difficult with the exception of Bosnia and Belgium. The side is good. Obviously there are glaring flaws and lack of depth in certain positions but it is a good side.

Your post seems as if you think I criticise Coleman and want him gone which isn't the case.

Well then I apologise for tarring you with the same brush as others. And I agree wth your deduction on the route of the coleman and williams issues. However you did just focus on the negative "if he doesn't then he is a failure" no mention of "if he does he is a success".

We have struggled nutoriously under every manager in the last 50 years, possibly Hughes aside. We have had the likes of Bellamy, Hartson, Rush, Hughes and even Giggs up front in recent decades and they have all struggled to score againt the likes you are stating will be easy - and that is Sam Vokes of the Championship we are talking about.

I think people lose all sense of perspective when it comes to international football. There is something instrinically wrong with Welsh international football and good sides have come and gone and each one underwhelming time and time again. People have seen this draw and forgotton all about our history as if qualifying should now somewhat be expected. We lose to the likes of Cyprus regularly, not just under Coleman.

We "should" finish 3rd, but finishing 3rd isnt a qualification place. So im not sure how we can describe coleman as the worst manager if he guides wales to finish behind Belgium and Bosnia.

That's irrelevant.

I ain't denying any of those things.

I ain't against him because he's English it goes for any other nationality. Okay the captain being English just takes the cake for me.

I don't whine about him because he ain't captain. I am not too concerned about players who aren't born and bred Welsh playing for us.

Speed lost games too. Didnt we get crushed to northern ireland under speed.

We lose to these teams regularly regardless of the manager so in that sense he is doing ok. I dont see why a different set of perimeters or expectancy levels should be placed on coleman.

Re: Wales best chance ever to qualify for Euros

Thu Feb 27, 2014 1:30 am

Won 5 and lost 5 under Speed.

We beat Northern Ireland 2-0. :thumbright:

Also we lost 3-0 to Republic of Ireland but if you looked at the teams that day, they had some very decent players and experienced Premier League players.

It was only a Nations Cup which wasn't something to worry about as it was the perfect time for Speed really to implement his plans in these games in preparations for Euro 2012 qualifiers ahead.

Speed got us to 45 in the World Rankings which was are highest in 20 years.

We went away and beat Bulgaria which was brilliant result. Of course the ground was quite empty I think for some reasons out there.

Went to Wembley and gave a great account of ourselves and lost 1-0, could of been 1-1 if Earnie put away the chance he had.

Beat Montenegro and Switzerland at home, 2 brilliant results.

With Speed, when we lost games we still looked good and were really pushing forward.. he didn't have many games but he got results quickly and we were playing well in the majority of the games.

Re: Wales best chance ever to qualify for Euros

Thu Feb 27, 2014 1:35 am

Indeed. We were playing well under speee but in terms of managerial pedigree, coleman wins hands down.

Awful situation to take over for coleman especially when then staff left too under a cloud created by dutch Ray.

Coleman os doing mo worse than the majority of welsh managers, under toshack we lost to georgia at home

Judge him after this campaign would be my advice now Speed is firmly in the back of the memory rather than a cloud over the set up.

I agree with you on that, the Costa Rica game was emotional and I knew Coleman had a tough job on his hands and I knew it would be difficult to replicate the form Speed got us in and then again I thought the memorial match for Speed came at the wrong time, it was too soon. The FAW got it wrong in terms of how quick it was organised.
