No its not. The Wire and The Soprano's never had the fanboyism that Breaking Bad had and the whole media industry at the times of release was different completely. There are shows released these days that would have never have coped years ago.

Wire and Sopranos were both on nationwide channels in most countries.
Breaking Bad has not.
It is mainly streamed online outside the US and with most things online they become popular.

I watched the Wire when it was on BBC ONE, one episode a night at about 11.30pm, every single night from episode 1 to the last. Epic!.

Game of Thrones is clearly not as good as BB, Sopranos, The Wire, SOA and Rescue me. I don't care however many people say it is down to personal opinion, GOT is not as good as it is made out to be. If the people who say it is great watched any of the above shows, they'd probably agree.

I love GOT.

And I'm currently just starting the book A Feast for Crows which will be the series after the
New one about to start.

Like I said all different and excellent.

You won't be disappointed, The Wire is the best of all mentioned in this thread

The wire was excellent, but on a number of occasions I had to watch the same episode a couple of times to understand what was being said, :old: :old: :old: :old:

Prison break was very good but went on to long, I thought it all got a bit silly :D :D :D

You cant really compare them to GOT's. Its easily the best fantasy based show there is. Some of the acting in GOT's is right up there with that in The Wire and The Sopranos.

Re: Breaking bad (walt white)

Breaking Bad gained the majority of its fanbase through word of mouth and not through advertising like many other series. They only really started getting major exposure in the UK for the final half of the final series.

One of the best series I have ever watched, if not the best, and arguably the best story written through the medium of T.V. Its very intelligently written and the ending is a fitting one.

I lost around 3 weeks of my life watching this non-stop! Well worth it.

You seen The Wire and The Sopranos?

Both are much better.

The fanboyism of Breaking Bad is laughable.

Yet you were lauding it not so long ago, even spending your spare cash on it.

Prison Break season one is possibly the best season in any of the TV series' - however it got progressively and majorly worse with each season culminating in the "Scylla" story line was incredibly lazy amd predictable which harbours all the traits of shows that fail to make it past Pilot or season 1 - ie Alcatraz which was horrible.

Breaking Bad is excellent throughout. A truly superb show with multi levels to the characters. Gripping viewing and clever story lines.

LOST - again, for me is superb. The last season seemed cobbled together and strained for story lines but the first 4 or 5 seasons were excellent.

24 - superb and not a bad series to its name and there have been 10 I think.

My top 5:-

1. LOST
2. Breaking Bad
3. 24
4. Walking Dead
5. Prison Break (season 1 would be up there in top 2. The rest of the seasons dragged it down into 5th)

I watched it on Netflix when I was a subscriber as it was on there and there wasn't much else decent on there apart from SOA. If I was a fanboy I'd have bought the DVD's.

To me it seems like you are the type of person to like something until it gets popular and then decide you dont like it any more as a result make a case for something less popular but probably not quite as good.

I have a mate like that. He will tell you he likes something then as soon as it becomes mainstream and everyone likes it then he immediately decides he likes its immediate less popular rival to create debate/be different.

Okay. Arrow is popular now and I enjoy that. I still enjoy shows like Prison Break. I just dont get the Breaking Bad hype. Yes its good, a masterpiece as some claim? Some episodes were yes. Others were dire. Then you have to factor in it had one of the most pointless characters in it ever.

The Wire is hands down the best show, popular or not. I dont care. Its quality. If you The Wire is probably not as good then you aint seen it. The Wire is much better. Its much more realistic for one and is filmed live on the streets of Baltimore. It also doesn't have planes coincidentally crashing over them main characters house. The number of plot holes in Breaking Bad that went unnoticed and loose ends that weren't tied up were unreal.

The fact you even said The Wire 'probably not quite as good' proves to me you've not watched it and therefore this discussion is pointless.

The wire is no where near as popular as Breaking Bad, so would qualify for its "less popular rival".

Ive not seen the wire no, I've not claimed to either. I was speaking in general terms.

Saying you prefer something else is fine but when you start talking about "fanboy ism" then to me it seems you are becoming very much like what I described. Have you thought it may be you that is under rating it rather than others "over hyping it"?

Why argue over peoples opinions?

I think Breaking bad is much better than the wire
Others dont.....such is life, no point in trying to argue which is better because its different for everyone

Thats completely fine, always open to everyones opinions.

but to say others liking something is simply "fanboyism" tells me that it isnt the show that is being critiqued but the following. In my experience that is usually due to someone deciding to not follow the crowd, hence there would be no other need to mention it.

To prefer Breaking Bad to The Wire you have to be a fanboy or have not watched The Wire honestly. Two different levels of TV altogether. There's no other explanation. The Wire is that good.

Its like comparing Cardiff and Swansea, both Premier League, but one is obviously better than the other. ;) :ayatollah:

IMBD have Breaking bad as 9.6/10 based on 465,000 users.

IMBD have The Wire as 9.4/10 based on 120,000 users.

Im not claiming one is better than the other as ive not seen "The Wire" but when I do see it I will base it completely on what I see and not the popularity of the two or who likes what. I feel a lot of people do this however.

I watched "Homeland" the other week. The first 2 seasons. It was ok, a bit of a rehashing of 24 I thought. Not got round to Game of Thrones yet but will probably be my next venture :D

Keep the recommendations coming though.

What is fanboy your new favorite word or something? Why can you not accept that somebody has a different opinion to you without trying to put them down. You sound like a right old hipster who thinks their opinion is more valid than others. I've seen the wire. Great show - breaking bad is better in my opinion. Maybe your just a 'fanboy' if you prefer the wire....

I love the Sopranos more than anything, but episode 13 (To'hajiilee) and 14 (Ozymandias) of the fifth season of Breaking Bad are just crazy good.

Re: Breaking bad (walt white)

Game of Thrones went mainstream, which means alot of people that watch crap TV usually, watched it. They are obviously going to think it is better than Snog, Marry, Avoid or other total shit.

If the Wire had fairies, vampires or other crappy 'cool' monsters it would be mainstream and people would think it is better. Which is why Game Thrones has a fanbase of 15 year old girls.

The Wire is the best imo. Closesly followed by the sopranos.
