The only thing I would mention is how left footed he is. A few times he had the opportunity to knock it right footed to Hudson to keep possession but put it out of play with his left foot, however if he isn't comfortable on his right foot he did the sensible thing.

Think you'll find that he's very comfortable on his right foot, as I witnessed at Stoke, when he cut in onto his right foot late on and nearly won us the game!

Well if you'd seen him next to the Ninian stand in the first half you'd have seen him consistently choosing to put the ball out of play rather than trust his right foot to make a pass to Hudson.

As I said before that though he's impressed me a lo this season and it was probably the sensible thing to do in the circumstances rather than risk losing the ball.

I sit in the Ninian stand and tbh, I can't recall any occasion when he had an opportunity to pass inside, but chose to put it out instead!

He may well have attempted to play the ball upfield and skewed one, but I can't imagine any footballer at this level opting to kick the ball purposely out, when there's a pass available inside!

I do remember him opting not to pass inside on a few occasions mind, but that was because it would have been a dangerous pass, which could well have been cut out!

They were potentially risky passes yes but if we're trying to build a passing team they're the sort of balls that players need to be comfortable making, it was only a minor point anyway. As you say they were risky passes so better not making them if he wasn't sure if they'd make it.

You've answered your own question then, as it's obviously better not to risk a pass being intercepted! :ayatollah:

I know it's a risk but if Ben Davies was in the same position he would have undoubtedly made the pass :P

Just something to think of for the future :ayatollah:

Have to agree to disagree mate, I thought John made all the right decisions yesterday, at least in the first half, as it wasn't so easy to judge him in the second half, as he was further away from my seat! :) :ayatollah:

Fair enough, can see where you're coming from anyway.

I think we can both agree we have what looks to be a rising star on our hands! :ayatollah:

What's wrong with clearing the ball out? Half our team can't clear the ball at all. Wow.

Nothing wrong with it

I was just saying that perhaps when he's a bit more confident he can attempt to play passes that a possession team would go for rather than knocking the ball out.

He started off in the academy as Left Forward, then Left Mid and settled with full back

I'm going to trust the academys judgement for the time being

Not a lot he could do for most of them in the first half.
