This year, we only have a comparison in the PL up to this point, so it's valid. As I have said on numerous occasions, the only true yardstick is finishing positions at the end of the season. Much as I hate to, I must disagree with you. You cannot say with any certainty that Swansea will not finish in the top 10 this year. If you can, perhaps you can also give me next week's lottery numbers! Therefore, the only yardstick is last year's finishing place - 9th.

Whether football fans refer to WBA as a top 10 team or not is irrelevant. You cannot argue against the fact that last season they finished 8th, which is top 10

Current league position is irrelevant to the fact that they are still champions. That's why they wear the gold PL badges. They are still champions until either they retain it or someone takes their crown. Similarly, our last finishing position was 9th and therefore top 10 and will be until we either finish above, or below that position
