We've won the two previous Premier League games following Europa League games, both away from home, and we could easily have won today as we dominated from the 25th to the 83rd minute without quite getting the run of the ball.

So no, I don't think your premise is correct at all. :thumbright:

Why are we going on last year? They're playing this season, not last season. :?

They're a team that has invested heavily in the transfer market & are currently in the top 4 I believe.. Whilst they are not top 4 material, you can hardly describe them as mediocre.

Either this is a very poor attempt at getting bites and hits, or you are spectacularly naive about the premiership this season.

I'd say they were a top 10 team this season... FAR from mediocre.

Why are we going on last season

They finished 14th and just 41 points, apart from 7 games played I don't think there is much else to base the view on.

Liverpool spend heavily most seasons but are not considered a top 4 team, I wonder why that is, oh I know they don't finish in the top 4

But because they spend money and have started the season very well I guess Liverpool should now be called a top 4 side

I remember Blackpool having a fantastic start by their standards in the 2010-11 season and still got relegated

PremierJacks wrote:As an honest response the simple answer is - I don't think it is affecting us yet. We had enough quality on the pitch to have won that today, but had no luck at all. Dyer hit the post and the ball rolled across the line and out of play the other side and the Southampton keeper made a worldy off a Bony header. Speaking to one of their supporters on the way back to the car he conceded that they were lucky. However, it's still no points out of the game. If you ask me the same question in eight weeks time, maybe the answer would be different.

Fair response but I must point out that your current league position has been explained by a few jacks due to the opposition you have played so far ie. United, Spurs, Liverpool and Arsenal so the point I was asking to everyone is do people think that the Europa League games is taking its toll being that today you have lost to Southampton who are not a top side and in fact not even considered a top half team.

I would agree that Southampton may not finish in the top ten, but after 7 games they are 4th, having won four, drawn two and lost one. Also, in those seven games they have only conceded two goals. It appears that every year there is one team not considered to be a top team that gets off to a real flyer. Two years ago it was Newcastle, last year it was West Brom and this year it's Southampton. So, I don't know if this answers your question, but before the game I would have taken a draw based on current form. After the game, I'm definitely disappointed that we didn't get anything. I don't think Europe is having an effect (yet!). However, should injuries kick in, it may be a different kettle of fish. Also, the internationals may have an affect. Ash, Vorm, De Guzman away, not sure about Bony. Also, just heard that Michu has been called up to the Spanish squad. Chuffed for the lad, but it's something I think we could have done without

Even if it does cause us problems as long as we arent relegated I couldn't give a flying feck. European football has so far been a brilliant experience and has brought a added dimension to the season. If that means we lose the odd league game so be it. Scfc European tour is well worth it. 8-) :sunny:

So you admit that you were looking for bites? Explains the majority of nonsense you post then.

No biting here, just posting opinions on the ridiculous idea that Southampton are in any way "mediocre".

Allan and I dont agree with that much, but I have to agree with your post as I have said all along, good luck to the Jacks in the Europa League, keeping getting more games as soon or later it will tell on your squad and hurt you in the Premier League.

The difference to previous games was they had harder game this week compared to previous games and that will continue as get further into competition! So problem will persist,

If you that, then bought the quality of player that Soton have and started the following season in 4th place after 7 games, then no I wouldn't say you were mediocre.

Much as Soton aren't. They are a very decent Premier League team.

That said, we still should have got something today and were a coat of paint away from probably going on to win the game.

Btw, you seem to have ignored my first post in this thread which was a direct response to your initial post.
