Because Fulham are in poor form. Berbatov is out of form as well. I'd take a point now but it is easy to see why people think we might win up there.

Where as we're in a superb vein of form, Won 1, Drawn 2 and lost 2 in the league!

Berbatov scored last night in a very good win over Everton, as did another supposedly out of form player in Darren Bent!

Well these people need to get real, as Fulham at home on their day are a very difficult team to beat and the nucleus of their side have performed admirably in the Premier League for quite some time, where as we are just finding our feet in a league, where most of our players have had to step up a level and those who we've acquired over the Summer and who were already up to the required level, are trying to gel with them!

Yes, we should be targetting games like these as ones where we've got a chance of picking up at least a point, but Fulham are always difficult to beat at home and are a fully established Premier League team!

Some people on here think that all we've got to do is turn up and the 3 points should be ours!

You highlight Berbatov's goal as a positive, but I see that as a negative, as Fulham played almost their entire first team, from a squad that has the oldest in the premier with an average age of 29, as they have 11 players who are 30 plus. We have seen how Bellamy needs to be rested at times and there are not many over 30's with his fitness and commitment. If we play with our usual style and tempo then the fact that our players have been rested and Fulham's haven't, coupled with recent form will be enough for us to get the win.

Some seem to think that was saying we have no chance of beating Fulham which couldn't be further from the truth. All I am saying is that Fulham will be no pushover and if anyone will go into the game as favourites it will be them.

Basically I am saying don't come on here 5pm saturday if we lose, crying and throwing your toys out like we have just lost to Hayes!

Fair enough on the likes of Spurs, Man City, United.etc but our fans need to get out of the mindset of blowing bubbles up the arse of every side in this league.

Overthemoon has just made Fulham sound like Real Madrid FFS.

You can make a good solid case for every team in this league, except probably Palace, so should that mean we just go into every game expecting to lose and be delighted with a point cos I tell you what 20 odd draws wont keep us up??

If we had done a Reading and got promoted and spent f*ck all fair enough, expect to go back down but weve spent close to 35 million quid on the squad FFS.

I do believe we can beat them but the problem is with this forum is that some of the people on it are so predictable.

If everyone was doom and gloom about playing fulham I'd probably be posting the opposite to what I have posted above but you and I both know what will happen:

The team sheet will be on here at about 2:45 and mr moo cow and a few others will be saying stuff like ffs malky how is cowie playing etc.

3:25 blubird1977 will come on hoofball again and a bunch of other drivvle followed by a few ayatollahs.

3:45 1-0 at half time the whole board goes into meltdown. We are now the worst team on the planet

4:00 more drivvle from bluebird1977
Including the stats of how many shots on goal we've had compared to them 'ayatollah'

4:20 we equalise and everybody calms down a bit.

4:40 we score the winner and everyone is wanking apart from some former fans who now log out.

5:00 we're the best team ever and malky should be knighted. Bring bayern munich and barca

Same time same thing next week

Interesting thread this, and one i agree with in the whole. There are no easy 3 pointers in this league, i was even concerned about going to Palace as on their day im sure they could even beat the likes of Chelsea.

Some interesting points brought up however about how there doesnt seem much confidence in your chances for the season....

Polo, do you think Malky has spent poorly then? I honestly cant ever imagine spending £30 million on players and not being happy with the team.

I think caulker was a good buy (overpriced but good), Odemwingie was a good buy and Theophile seems a great bit of business.

Although i know this wont be popular - but Medel is a poor signing in my eyes. Yes hes a decent defensive midfielder and your fans are trying to turn him into some sort of cult hero due to his price tag and reputation as a hot head... but he doesnt do any more than Britton or Canas (Canas especially) and they cost 500k combined.

Cornelius and Brayford seem to be complete wastes of money and when combined with that other striker that hasnt had a look in from last year, thats about £12 million worth of player that haven't had a look in, its like he didnt know what they were about until he signed them. Its odd.

By your logic then, Bony is a poor signing as his prem league goal scoring record isnt better than Odemwingies and he only cost 2.5million+

What does he do differently then? The role of a defensive midfielder is to break up play and retain posession. Canas and Britton do it impeccably. What does medel bring to the table that they dont and that is worth the extra £11 million or whatever it was?

It's incredible how many times you try and make tenuous comparisons between us and you. What possible significance has Gary Medels price tag have to do with Leon Britton and Canas. You've done well and more than held your own for over two years. We've played FIVE games! If Malky keeps us up by one goal on the last day of the season then that will suffice, but what I've seen so far in terms of how difficult to beat we are and what I'm expecting of Peter Odemwingie and a fully fit Andreas Cornelius then we'll survive comfortably. At the moment I'd rather make comparisons with Southampton, a club who took a lot longer to adjust to top flight life. We're already progressing better

Five points from our opening tough start. By the time we reach ten games, I expect to be looking at 11-12, maybe more but certainly no less.

Its not tenuous at all. You seem to have a budget of £30m. If you spent over a third of it on one oayer that seems no better than ones available on free or nominal fees then its restricting your strengthening. You could have soent that in a winger... Or two.

Fair enough on the rest. Im simply asking if the people who arent confident of staying up as a resukt believe they have soent poorly as £30m is a significant sum.

He is quicker, stronger and a better range of passing.

Ive just researched the definination of "Impeccable" and you are suggesting Britton and Canas are flawless; perfect. If thats the case they wouldnt be playing for Swansea City.

We also were in desperate need of some bite in the middle of the park. Desperate need.

How many international caps do Britton and Canas have between them? How many world cups have they been to?

Leon britton so far this season

Average pass accuracy - 93%
Average duels won - 86%
Average pass length - 15m
Defensive errors - 0
Chances created - 2

Gary Medel so far this season

Average pass accuracy - 92%
Average duels won - 50%
Average pass length - 18m

Hes stronger yes. Speed isnt a trait needed by a defensive midfielder and im not sure about better range of passing.

No player is perfect but their job in the defensive midfield is as near as a club like either of us is going to get, their duels won and oass accuracy always ridiculously high.

Im not sure caps or world cups have anything to do with it. Michu has no caps played at no world cups yet Shaun Malomey has loads.

Gary Medel is an exceptional and established international midfielder/defender. He was critically acclaimed in both the Argentinian Apertura and La Liga. In the extremely short time he's had to adapt to the English games he's already getting rave reviews for his performances. As Malky said last week, he could become our most important signing yet in our history

Leon Britton has been a vitally important cog in your systems over the last few years, but it's impossible to compare the two. Britton has a job to do and does it well, but is a player in a great system, whereas Medel is a great player. Full stop

Thats all well and good Tony but we are talking about actual performances and not hype or reputation. Torres has recieved acclaim in both Spain and England yet who would you rather, him or Benteke?

Britton has a better pass completion rate, created more chances and a better duels won %. Im not sure how there is a case that Medel is worth £10 million more.

Like lakey just implied, if you take britton out of your system he would be shit. As was proven at sheff utd.

Gary Medel has played in argentina, spain, uk and for the chilean national team all with different styles of play and different systems and has excelled.

As for you argument about all defensive midfielders being the same and doing the same job tgen why did you even pay 500k? Why not just go and get a defensive midfielder from pandy albion or something! Pathetic argument I know, but so was yours.

Shaun Maloney and Michu have nothing to do with this we are making comparisons between Medel and Britton.

Medel at 26 years old has gained 54 caps for a team ranked 16th in the world
Brittonat 30 years old has gained 0 caps for a team ranked 17th in the world.

If Britton is as "impeccable" as you are suggesting, and Medel so vastly overpriced, I am sure their international caps stats would be of similair number considering they play for a country of similair quality.

Medel has the experience of world cups, and this is the 3rd major league he has played.

Britton has spent his career in the lower leagues.

No he wasnt he had the 3rd highest pass completion rate. Theres far more to a defensive midfielders game than pass completion, one of the key things is breaking up opponants play. However Brittons is still higher, significantly so than Medels.

I disagree. Britton didnt settle at Sheff Utd, they were an awful side.

I dont understand your argument regarding all defensive midfielders doing the same thing? I have never said that. Ive said Medel does no different to Britton. Im sure a defensive midfielder from panty albion would not be able to get a 93% pass completeion and 87% duels won in the premier league.

So if britton retains posession better and breaks up play better, what does medel do that is worth £10m more is the point im making.
