I think we could rename this thread "the bitching thread". I hark from pre-yellow era boys, just because there is a keyboard no reason to use it.

BTW - the grassy gnoll is available and open to offers.

I won't set foot in that stadium if we are changed to Cardiff city dragons. Tan knows better anyway because he toyed with the idea before and Cardiff fans reacted badly so he quickly u turned. Can't see it changing to be honest, tan just looked like he was joking about there to me and not being serious.

He was praising the hull chairman for name change!!!!!!

It is happening. Make no qualms about it. People can be in denial all they want but they were the same with the rebrand and look what happened there. Lightning will unfortunately strike twice if people refuse to wake up.

This is true. Annis knows the score as usual but he cant win. He comes out and says 'Tan is definitely changing the name' and everyone accuses him of scaremongering and whipping up hysteria against Tan. If he does nothing he sees the club he loves stripped of its true identity, its name.

A nickname should NEVER be a part of the name.

How about this? He offers us a deal, we keep the name Cardiff City but have to go through with 33,000 red seats, bluebird removed from badge and the name Dragons in the media constantly pushed? Or Cardiff City Dragons with what we have now

Barnett you are spot on here. It's coming.. The signs are there. Surely even the pro-Tan fans can see he's considering it!

I would hope that our fans would be up in arms about it, then again, I thought that about the rebrand.

There is logic behind a possible name change. Vincent Tan is building the biggest shopping mall in the world 38km from Beijing, with a catchment of over 100m people. Inside the mall are 3 rollercoasters and or waterslides one of which will be in the shape of a big red dragon. No prizes for guessing which premier club's shirts will be on sale there if there is a name change. We could become one of the richest clubs in football if some this happens. It will still be Cardiff City, playing in Cardiff. Now if the team relocated then that would be a different ball game, but a slight change to the name, we would still chant city and bluebirds. Our history doesn't disappear just because of a change of colour or name.

We are not the important customer though, the tv companies and the major sponsors are. We are key stakeholders though and if tan has learnt anything over the last two games is that we are important. Time for a dialog with the fans with mutual respect from both. I hope he is starting to "get" being us
I am still unsure if protests are the way to go with Tan, each to thier own.

It was a perfect opportunity to play today in blue.....if he was not on a vendetta against the traditional colour and history...... I dislike the man more and more with each snub he makes at what was my club..... So sad to see people lay down and let him walk over us..... And to be honest...no...premiership football at this cost, is NOT worth it.

I can understand from a marketing point of view to appeal to a worldwide audience, especially an American market, as 99% of their teams seem to have a nickname, and its already starting to happen at Hull.
Personally I am against any name change, and I am a reluctant red.

So I can see a lot more people becoming upset over this one if it happens.

Changing the name of the club is not on.
At the moment he is the owner of the club and they can play in whatever colours he wants. Its still Cardiff City in name. I don't like it but I can live with it.
If and it is a big IF at the time that he did change the name, the only option left would be to embarrass Tan big time.
By orchestrating a campaign through the Media to really hit home at Tan, making him the only target, I believe we could humiliate him.
It could be done. I take my hat off to Blues United but at the end of the day they do not appear to have the know how, to mount a campaign to damage someones reputation.
It would make his position as owner of Cardiff what ever he wants to call, it untenable.
The people left supporting Cardiff, whatever it was called would have the piss taken out of them big time by all and sundry.
The club would not go under. Tan is a business man and knows he would have to sell at a loss to salvage anything but the damage would already be done to his reputation and pride. He would not be a happy bunny.

I said this ages ago but no one listens. You're preaching to people in denial mate.

They were the same about the rebrand and then it happened and because they weren't prepared nothing could be done professionally about it. Hull City weren't prepared for their change and they have had a handful of similarly pathetic protests as harsh as that is but its the truth. A similar song and dance will be taking place in the near future with us and if our fans not prepared this time they only have themselves to blame.

Its quite obvious its going to happen, as you have said, from a marketing perspective the game will follow that of the US model in the NFL/NBA and not only are Sky shoving adverts into every slot they can to maximise profit margins but club owners want to create a brand, a logo of which clubs can be identified by and reach out globally with. Not only does it do that but it also gives them a sense of 'I made that' just as Steve Jobs is associated with Apple, Tan will be associated with the brand 'Cardiff Dragons' and if the brand is successful it looks good on him globally, regardless of us local folk think.

Tan believes the dragon is that logo and a powerful brand image that can be used and it makes only sense to someone who believes that, that he changes the name to suit. The problem he has is sweetening up the fan base enough that the majority let it slide and the way he does that is more money and promising more dreams. A decent season this year and you'll see the promises of Europe and giving Malky enough money to take us to the next level but the sacrifice will be our name.

The thing is, by the time he tries to force this through there will be another 5,000 odd fans in the stadium if our attendances max out on the capacity and another 5,000 who are out to see Premier League football at any cost, those who's voices will with others willing to trade in our name for the dream, eclipse our voices and leave us as the overwhelming minority.

The new breed of fans (customers) are Tan's biggest weapon because they drown out the opposers. The more successful we or Cardiff Dragons become and the more that jump aboard Tan's ever cruising ship the more of a minority the opposers become. He gives them the service and top flight football they crave and the money to keep seeing that and they'll do what he wants because the emotional attachment to the club on any premise just isn't there.

It's sad and you'd except the Premier League to intervene but they won't because they're a profit orientated machine themselves.

Good points there got to move with the times.
All those who were up in arms re the colour change but still continue to go to the games are being hypocritical and if it comes to a name change I wonder how many of them will make another excuse and continue to go. The guys who decided at the time of the colour change they could not set foot in the ground are the only fans who can hold their heads up high.
