On the mitch from school during GCSE year. Was watching GMTV or this morning whatever it was called at the time. Remember watching the second tower getting hit live on the channel.

Crazy day.

In high school, year 9 I think. Didn't find out until I was picked up on my way home. Still think the school should have told us.

Boarding a flight from Dusseldorf to Heathrow.
Nobody said a word as we circled the city in a queue to land. Can't believe it's been 12 years.

I was collecting a new motorcycle from Surrey when the girl on Reception told me what had just happened. I thought first of all she was telling me a joke and I had somehow missed the punchline but then we saw the second impact and that was when it became real for me :(

Was a surreal journey home and I couldn't help but think of all those people who might have had an idea what was about to happen and only later did the real horror come to light, i.e. terrorism, loss of so many ground staffs (inc. workers, police and firefighters, etc.) and the impact it would have on the future of the world itself

Still makes me think how lucky we are to live where we do and how 'cushioned' we are in comparison to many others around the world...and yet still we moan at the slightest thing

My thoughts today (I'm actually in the USA as I write) are certainly with those who suffered and their families :ayatollah:

Hi all, my first post  .... be gentle!

It was about 1:45 here - I was in the shower (Radio 2 on) I had a School Governors meeting at 3. I could't believe what I was listening to. Got out and switched on the TV. I stayed watching the incredible scenes as long as I could. When I left home, both towers and the Pentagon had been hit.

When I got to the meeting, there was a TV in the room and no-one knew anything about it. I told them what had happened and they all laughed in disbelief. Turned the TV on just in time to see the first tower collapse ...... you know what happens next. As you can guess, the meeting didn't happen. The Head Teacher had only been at the top of one of the towers a couple of weeks before. Apparently some kids (and staff) made slightly inappropriate comments about that when they found out!

It's true to say that you do remember where you were for this just as you did for JFK's assassination (yeah, I'm that old!).

I woke up on my couch with a hangover and a half eaten curry on the floor. I was rough as f**k and my phone was ringing. I had left the telly on all night and thought it was a film. Clydebank lost 2-0 at Dumbarton that night. Was gutted.

Was walking through Howells with ex mrs, down towards the clothes, there was a group of about 20 people looking at the telly - bottom of the ramp. I thought it was a demo of something on there. Looking at it, asking the person by me what was going on. I thought what the fuk is going on. Can't remember leaving Howells or how I got to The Vic, but sat in there for the rest of the night in total disbelief watching it with the lads. A sad,sad day,

Probably on school, I can't remember it, although I was only 5 at the time. But to this day, because I've never read too much into it, I never knew the Pentagon was hit that day.

Madness

I was returning from LA to London at the time and we was ordered to be grounded by the US Authorities. Was stuck in Dallas for 4 days after. Terrible atrocities at the time. Obama has kept his word to stop Al Qaeda. Retribution is karma. And when you hear from the Americans, the expression, "an eye for an eye"-they mean it!

Was a very surreal day for me and my family, as events were unfolding in NYC, we had just found out my eldest brother had been diagnosed with Motor Nuerone Disease, he passed away two years later almost to the day. :(

Re: Where was you 12 years ago today? 9/11

I was in Shepherds Bush Market and I could see the traders wrapped around the TV, I knew it was something Big going down.
When I got back home i seen what was being transmitted from NYC and I knew my brother would be in that area because my Niece and Nephew went to school near there and I feared for the worst.

I called my Brothers home number and got through straight away, he answered the phone and I have never heard him so freaked out, he told me that on the way to school with the kids he seen a plane flying really low and in a direction that didn't look normal and then it hit the building right in front of they're eyes. He witnessed the people jumping out of the windows of the Tower and thought it was a tragic accident.

My brother (Chris) then dropped the kids off at the school and went back to where he lived on Lafayette Street, has he got back his wife was freaking out with everyone else on the street and enquired where the kids were...she then said go back and get the kids from the school.

On his return to the school he witnessed the second plane ramming into the other tower and this freaked him out because he now knew they were under attack and really thought there was more to come.
He watched the towers come down he was on Greenwich Avenue......the rest is history, the one thing he and a lot of New Yorkers tell me is the smell was horrific and something they will never forget.

The crazy thing about this is.....Chris was bunking off school up the mountain the day of the Aberfan disaster he witnessed that as well, if you go on to the SW police website there is a picture of a little boy looking at the miners digging the children out of the sludge....that's my Brother Chris.....used to follow City late 60s-early 70s.

Was in school when it happened. Would have been about 8ish, didn't realise the gravity of the situation until I was about 14/15.
Shocking days and RIP to all those who lost their life's, just wish justice would be done!
Still to this day believe the US government had something to do with it mind, went into Iraq 11 days after the event. Slightly suspicious if you ask me, especially considering the Oil and Opium trade coming out of that part of the World

I think you might want to check your information on that one

11 days after 9/11 would have been the 22nd of september, America invaded Iraq 19th March 2003 a full 554 days after 9/11

Re: Where was you 12 years ago today? 9/11

I was in school in a history lesson in 6th form and two of the lads who had skived off came in late and said that a plane had flown into the World Trade Center. We all thought it was a small single-manned plane but then my Dad picked me up an hour later and he said "have you heard?" and I asked about what. He then said "two passenger planes have gone into the World Trade Center, one has gone into the Pentagon and another has gone off the radar and they think it's heading to the White House".

In that sentence I began to get a bit scared. Nobody knew who was behind the attacks at the time and all sorts of rumours were flying. The most popular one was that it was the Chinese had done it and it was an act of war. People were looking at the hits on the financial epicenter of the US, the centre of its military operations and the house of its President and they were getting concerned.

As time went on though, it soon became apparent that it was Al-Qaeda but it was still a worrying time. Especially with George W. Bush at the helm with many thinking he might not waste a second to start throwing bombs around.

A very sad day and it's so tragic that thousands of lives were lost on this day and have been lost since in the resulting conflicts both in the US, UK, Spain, Middle East and other parts of the world where terrorist atrocities have claimed the lives of the innocent.
