Life is never simple and any form of sexual abuse case is particularly difficult.

If someone is accused of sexual assault and their name is not disclosed and while the police are investigating the accused person sexually assaults a member of your family, you would probably complain that the person's name should have been publicised to warn people.

On the other hand if the person is innocent then disclosure makes their life hell.

A balance has to be struck and I feel that the norm should be that the name of the accused should not be disclosed at the very least until the individual is charged. There would have to be a provision that the police court apply to the court to lift the anonymity e.g. if they were trying to trace a sex attacker who was on the run.

As far as the alleged victim is concerned, we have to remember that in some cases the jury will find the accused not guilty, not because they believe that they are innocent, but because the jury feels that the prosecution has only proved the case to a "balance of probabilities" level, i.e. they felt the accused probably did it but it did not meet the proved "beyond reasonable doubt" test. So just because the accused is found to be not guilty, it does not mean the alleged victim lied. Many sexual abuse cases boil down to two people giving a different story of the events and no other evidence.

If the judge believes that a reasonable case has been made, then the alleged victim should remain anonymous. Anything else would be monstrous. If a member of your family was raped but the court case failed, would you want them named?

But if the judge believes the alleged victim was lying, then that individual should be prosecuted and named.

There was not enough evidence to convict him but that doesnt mean the girl is a liar. Its a dangerous precedent to set and could stop genuine victims of sexual assault complaining for fear of being prosecuted themselves if they dont get the verdict they require.

That said, if it can be proved that the person is definitely lying about such a hideous crime then lock them up for as long as you would a rapist.

For 2 years he has had this hanging over him.

But surely now its about time the accused was named on cases like this, as even though he has been found not guilty, His life is tarnished and ruined in many ways and yet the accused continues as though nothing has happened.

He's been found not guilty and given the high profile of this case along with a tabloid witchunt, if this man had skeletons they would've been exsposed, so he's cleaner than most. unfortunately for lots of people this still isn't enough.

Let the innocent man now get on with what is left of his life.
