Can't you just use as many young players as you want? Is it under 21?

I would sell Conway and Smith anyway, so it doesn't really bother me who's in or not between them. Smith really is not good enough to guarantee survival let alone competiting for a mid table finish which we should be.

Maybe Conway's Head is not in the right location right now, to much of a gamble for Malky.

Smith is a player with an excellent football brain who retains possession well. A much better player I think than he gets credit for. He has one more season with us at the most and he could prove very useful. Because of his experience, he is the type of player to just jump in do an alright job after not playing for a few months.

I don't really think this is harsh on Conway at all. He needs to know where he stands at this situation makes it very clear to him. These 25 man lists also are a good advert for players who are omitted. Craig is a talented Scottish international and he will go to a Scottish Premier or a Championship team until January on loan. Craig's incentive is to play out of his skin and make it so that someone wants to pay good money for him. We could hope to get as much as £1m if he goes somewhere and plays to his best. That would have payed for all his wages I would imagine in the time he spent at CCFC. Good business again from Cardiff.

Best of luck Craig.

It's funny we haven't sold anyone in ages. Partly to do with the fact that DJ left our squad depleted. But now hopefully Malky's long term decisions on signings should start reaping an income.

Really gutted for Conway, top player who deserves his shot at the Prem. really enjoy watching him play.

This may also be the end of his Scotland career which was just beginning to actually get somewhere to. And on top of it all, Smith is absolute shite

Smith was one of our top earners last season, has a better touch and rarely gives the ball away. We are going to have to subsidise a fairly large chunk of either wages so we may as well keep smith.

Not sure what happens with Lappin, pay up his contract ?

Conway is a very popular player for sure - massive work rate and a great shot on goal.

He scored some belters for City - remember his winner against Pompei?

However, he was always in the Championship side by the skin of his teeth - and that brought out the dog in him.

I think most would agree that even he did not believe in his own pace - and maybe he would be better off playing full time outside the Premiership? I am no expert, but suspect that he would best be suited to League 1 or a Championship team.

Good luck to him who ever he plays for, I think most of us will have fond memories and much respect for him.

I'm sure we will either loan out Lappin or maybe come to an agreement to tear up his contract. We never really got to see much of him. One of Malky's few emergency purchases. I remember DJ's squads were all emergency purchases!

gutted for conway, but we have to move on, not every player makes it when teams go up, i would have loved for him to have been there but thats football. i hope he gets a top championship side to play for for the season :ayatollah:

Really I thought I read on here recently that Conway confessed to malky that he had a bad gambling problem.

Stan_B wrote:It was probably a close call between Smith & Conway. What happens to Lappin, Conway, Kiss & Velikonja now?

Lappin and Conway I assume will either go to a Championship or Scottish Premier side on loan. Kiss & Velikonja seem to be regulars in the Development Team and would be missed if they went - I have a feeling they might be loaned overseas though.

Thinking back over the past couple of months, Velikonja has been linked with Reading, Conway as a possible make-weight to Celtic in the Wanyama deal (thank g*d we got Gary instead :ayatollah: ), Kiss played well for the DVP particularly vs the wurzels so I could see them coming in for him. Lappin? Who knows, back to Scotland? I can see Yeovil looking at them all tbh, to join up with Joe Ralls. Good luck to them all. :ayatollah:

I completely agree with this. I think Conway offers more than Smith.

However I may be a wee bit bias as he comes from the same home town as me :D

Got to the ground early last Saturday so we waited for the players to come and to see if Baines and Fellaini got off the Eventon bus. I was shocked to see Craig Conway smoking has he walked from the car.

With Malky being very strict with the fitness and loving a hardworking team, maybe he doesn't like some of Craig's lifestyle choices?
