He joined Villarreal for £440k when he was 19, played for their reserves, was promoted to the first team, but then loaned out twice before becoming a regular. He was then sold for £3.08m to Morelia in June 2012. The guy is a class act and can only get better.

Cardiff City In Talks With South American Winger Jefferson Montero
by Steven Green August 28th, 2013
Bluebirds discussing deal with Ecuadorian wing ace.
Premier League new boys are thought to be close to making another new addition in the shape of Ecuadorian international Jefferson Montero, Sky Sports reports.
Several Premier League sides have expressed an interest in the 23-year-old over the summer, but it is Cardiff who are the most eager to land the player and are now working on a deal to bring him in from Mexican side Morelia.
Montero is now in the process of obtaining a visa which will allow him to travel to Britain and undergo a medical, ahead of the proposed deal.
There are not thought to be any problems with his eligibility for a work permit as he has over 30 international caps for Ecuador, who currently lie in 17th place in the FIFA rankings – just behind England.
Montero has already had one stint in Europe in his career having spent three seasons in Spain for Villarreal, Levante and Real Betis before heading back to Mexico in 2012.
He penned a three year deal with Morelia and immediately made an impact with a hat trick in just his third appearance of the season. He has since gone on to wrack up 40 appearances for the club, scoring nine goals.

Haven't Morelia just offered him a new deal though?

His current club call him Wonder Boy! My friend from Equador reckons he's a class act. Look at this video against Chile-

So if it's far better than ours he's more likely to take that?

As said above, if Terry Phillips said its unlikely, they're already printing Montero on the back of the shirts in the club shop

From my source, now the deal is looking just about done!
