Just because a stadium sells out it doesn't mean every seat has to have a person in it. Things come up, weddings and family issues. Then you have areas that don't go on sale so are not classed in the official attendances statistics.

I know a few season ticket holders who weren't there because of holidays. Nobody took their seats. I assume that happens quite often especially August games

I did watch the game on television yesterday in the pub waddle and yes I can confirm there were quite a few empty seats but these are seats where fans have either not turned up for their own reasons or seats that never went on sale thus not officially included in the attendance figures.
