Early 80's maybe can't remember the year, one of you will know.
I was at that game not sure what year it was tho.chelsea were jumping down the back to get away and it was a 30ft drop.Steve hickmott's mob that was-they bit off more than they could chew.
I remember watching that and oh how I laughed. I think that was the game I had a stanley pulled on me in Sloper Rd.
The 3-3 game I was in initially in the Grandstand enclosure and eventually with others was marched out on the touchline past the Canton from where we were coined and on to the Bob bank.
The time Chelsea came out of the Canton onto the Bob bank by opening the gate it was Ching and a few others who ran at them and forced them back in.
The visitors with overwhelming numbers that haven't been mentioned on this thread are Sunderland who came down I think a week/the game after their cup final win and also had thousands.

[quote="cardiff yid"]Have to disagree Lord Ninian, Chelsea smashed Cardiff from the Ninian pub to Doc Graham's. baddest and biggest mob I ever seen in Cardiff apart from Man utd. Me and Dai H always reckoned Chelsea had other cockney lads with them. Most of Cardiff legged it. Mostly old B troop kept the heads in the fire and ultimately we had the shit kicked out of us. One of the brothers got stabbed in the head . I can recall they were chanting War! War! War as they bowled down Tudor road wielding anything they could pick up. Some were all bandaged up from earlier scrapping where it was even. I have to admit it was very fooling naughty. Police were no where and I am surprised there wasn't anybody killed. They used to love coming to Cardiff, Hickmott stated Cardiff always turned up. Would only rate them 4 th in London but when they came to Cardiff they were better than any others by far[/quote
Well i went to a west ham v millwall game (annis may remember this as he was with me) and on entering upton park i found a lump of a hammer sat in my seat. In no place to argue i left him to it and away from the others. A couple of oldaer lafs next to me were chatting and mentioned ninian park. I informed them who i was and ittranspired that they were icf who had been with chelsea that day you are talking about. They said there was other smalk firms from london and the surrounds out for the trip too.
Straight from the horses/hammers mouth cardiff yid.

Yes they were all good lads. PB never liked any runners. They were not all Llanrumbo either as people generally think. From many parts of Cardiff.

After the match it was toe to toe and Chelsea got pushed down the road, that's my recollection anyway, good job I lived In Canton and got out of harms way. Was at the match when they was on the bob bank, but the one I remember the most was sandwiched between these matches it was a scolding hot day Chelsea brought their usual huge following, they ran city down into Canton some stayed to fight not many though. My brother use to tell me they took the old Grange end ,where they stabbed a city fan under the old wooden terracing. All in all a right bunch of bastards.

I don't know who Dai H is, neither do I care but he's right. The train back to London was carnage, couldn't figure out who of the London mobs were fighting who, knew a few Chelsea chaps who in fairness looked after me and they were a bit lost as to who was who.
Man U 1974, nothing compares with that, my first trip to Ninian Park at eleven years old. I've seen a lot in my time but that was unreal.
Scotland at Ninian? Got lifted off the floor by some Jock guy around 7tf tall who stuffed a bottle of whiskey in me gob telling me to cheer up as it's not the end of the world. I hate whiskey.

Well, i was at the chelsea game and although it was pretty rough it doesn't come anywhere near the man utd game in 1974, to this day i have no idea how someone was not killed against utd, only a miracle made it possible, the ugliest scenes i have ever witnessed at a football match in my 42 years of attending.

Good call Cardiff Yid
Again It was only my opinion...
Totally agree they were immense that day..Yes very intimidating due to their numbers And if its true that a lot of London firms were down aswell ,.. I think we put up a good show.
The ones who come on the Bob Bank got battered ..And to think of all what they had in 3 parts of the ground with other London firms aswell ,,they didn't really have a go in mass in trying to take our end..
I remember those chants vividly on Tudor road of War,,! War..! War..! ..If memory serves me rightly ..We done them same at Swansea a good few weeks later (The ones from the East Terrace)after the game on their high st ..though we were outnumbered while missiles rained over our heads..
Were there any Lane down there Cardiff Yid..?

The Man Utd game I cannot really comment on as I was 11/12 yrs old and tried to stay away from the trouble . It was basically going off all over Cardiff as soon as the red army arrived. Long haired loons in white skinner jeans 20 odd holer martens. With scarves hanging from them lol. Platforms and high waisters and wrangler jackets. Young and fearless of the police. I remember shitting my self most of the day but went home bragging how great it was! I sat up in the rafters of the grangend to avoid being crushed . Shops down Tudor road were boarded up on police advice. I sat on the top deck of the number 47 bus watching the ferocious fighting around the station as the big boys got stuck into each other . Police dogs were loose mauling nutters in flares. From all accounts from older mancs and cardiff it was pretty even. By god I would imagine the jail sentences handed out now for both man Utd and Chelsea games would be interesting

Another mad day at ninian had nothing to do with football.Believe it or not it was a game of rugby league between Cardiff blue dragons and widnes!! Me and a few mates had watched a few games and decided to go to this one as widnes were a famous club in this sphere. We got on the bob bank and all hell broke loose as a couple of hundred widnes were already there.Shit loads of fighting and flagons of beer were being thrown back and forth.Cardiff massed and run them out of our end-mad 10 minutes or so though!!

agree mate i was at the spurs game and outside the the grangend when we both clashed outside chelsea 1977 was another day when chelsea got the better of us but to be fair they forgave us for taking the pis at thee place and youre right about millwall in 76 got outnumbered that day but to be fair to them never really had a big mob in those days but they were still a handfull
