If we sign Capoue, Whitts days will be numbered anyway

If we sign Capoue or someone similar that will give Whitts the licence to play a more attacking role, if anything it's going to benefit him and ultimately us. :D

I thought we should have sold Whittingham the summer after he had the season of 20+ goals.

When the big games come, I don't recall Whittingham having a stand out game against Blackpool play off final, Portsmouth FA Cup, Reading Play off semis......etc

Palace second leg.

I'm sure he got the two assists against Blackpool, Leicester Away scored that Free kick, Leicester home held is nerve and scored the penalty to make it 3-2, also hit the bar bar in that game. Liverpool final I thought he was our best attacking player by a mile. In a attacking role and confident Whitts is a class act, he'll cause problems in the PL. :ayatollah:

Liverpool final it was his two corners that Liverpool couldn't deal with to make it 2-2. With a dead ball he is still our best player.

Could'nt disagree more..whitts looked back to his old self yesturday..dictated the game fantastically and made some quality needed tackles..whitts is firmly in malky's plan I think and I also think he will shine this year in the prem.. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

I think that Whitts has just been playing out of his position. I don't think he suits the quarter back role. When he is not there and plays more attacking style he is much better IMO.

I think Whits has showed us loyalty plus some great goals and displays on the pitch. He did drift off at the end of the season true but I think Whits has earned his chance in the Premiership see how it goes

Whitts aint the only one we need to sell as we need better players than him and others to survive in the prem, the trouble is people hang on to what a player has done for out club when if your a realist they wouldnt be here if somebody in the prem wanted them for the years we was in the championship, id sell about 6 of them today as there championship players given the change and had better replacements lined up IMO :ayatollah:

I am with you on having some doubts about Mark Hudson, mostly his lack of pace, but I am willing to give him a chance. On Whittingham I have to disagree as he is a Premiership player and will shine for us next season. Football is all about opinions which is why I love it so much !!!

Please excuse me, but this guy has lost it a bit. Why sell Whittingham? It would appear that he was a stand-out performer yesterday, yet this critic of him wants him sold in spite of having not seen him play yesterday, which is strange. But even stranger is any cretin who wanted him sold after 2009/10! :? And this myth regarding his perceived poor performance in high-profile matches needs to be addressed. Let's start with the play-off final. He created both goals. The play-off semi-final, second leg, against Reading. Fair enough, he didn't really perform. But then again, exactly who did? Precisely, nobody did. The same could be said for the FA Cup final. Further still, Whittingham was not even a regular then as he is now, or has been over the last four years. The Carling Cup semi-final, second leg, against Crystal Palace. Did he perform? Yes, I think he did. To be frank, the way in which he put away his penalty in the shoot-out was worth having him in the team alone! And in the final, he played fine (he didn't go 'missing', anyway). In fact, had he not delivered those two corners which led to Turner's tap-in in the manner he did, then there would have been no penalties. And talking of penalties, his penalty, just like his penalty in the shoot-out against Palace, sent the goalkeeper (in this instance, one of the best at saving penalties anywhere in the world) the wrong way. But that's not the end of it. Does anyone remember the game at Selhurst Park on the last day of the league season (a game that needed to be won to secure a play-off place), in which his brilliant free-kick levelled the game and set the team on the way to victory? It's probably been forgotten by many (including the OP).

And what is this obsession (it could be labelled an agenda, quite honestly) with ditching Hudson? This is all in spite of the fact that he was out injured at the end of last season, and has probably not got quite back up to speed thus far. It really is rather perplexing, to say the least. He was voted Player of the Year barely three months ago, and people want shot of him! But what about 'pace' and his perceived lack of it? This is the big question. This bullshit is thrown his way time and time again; it never stops. I ask you this: how many centre-halves in this country, in the Championship and in the Premier League, are quick? As in, blisteringly so? Not many. Not many at all. Does no one remember Sami Hyypiä, formerly of Liverpool? He is perhaps the slowest player I have ever seen, yet he was an outstanding defender, because of his reading of the game.

Both Whittingham and Hudson are key members of the first-team squad as it stands, that shouldn't change. Despite what the OP believes. Remember folks, all this is 'just my opinion'

If he was consistent I believe a Premiership club would have bought him during the last 7 years.

Remember I am only a fan and we have different opinions, I know it sounds negative but I am being realistic, I also worry about Mark Hudson as well.

I still think we are short of at least 4 quality players to survive in the Premiership, lets hope I am proven wrong or Malky signs the quality required.

Take it you weren't at the game yesterday?

It's probably been mentioned but this is exactly what happened to QPR.As soon as they went up they got rid of all the players who got them there in the first place. They went all 'Hollywood' and paid the price. It's been well documented by the QPR player's who said all the characters went and were replaced with foreigners who didn't even speak the language.I don't think Makay is that naive and selling Whittingham would be crazy.Only my opinion of course.

I don't think Malky has helped by playing him out of position / too deep.

Sorry Annis, must disagree. Both deserve a chance in our PL setup. Whitts was excellent yesterday, apart from one back pass, and not shooting enough in the first half. Hudson was OK too. They may, or may not, cut it in the PL, but would not sell either now. We need to strengthen, yes, but keep our best Championship players.

No keep him around, great for set pieces and he will score goals on his day. Doubt he will start much as I say it being Kim Mutch and whatever defensive midfielder we bring in

Totally agree with that sentiment, interested to know who you would look to unload before the season starts, baring in mind Mackay's stated aim to be ruthless, which in my humble opinion he has yet to show

I have said this about Whitts many times, but of course most of the guys on here then go crazy. Anyway I totally Agree Annis, that money go go into a bid for another player in the next open window or even before this ones closes . We really need players that will challenge all over the field and in the air , I have hardly even seen Whitts even try to go up with a bigger player. Most of the time will pull out of a 50/50 ball. No he should go .

I thought Whitts was back to his old self on Sat passing well and good on dead ball kicks.
His loyalty should be rewarded by allowing him to play in prem this season.
He's also capable of scoring a few goals this season which could be crucial.

I think people are getting carried away and need grounding with calls of "time to sell Whitts". For seasons touted as the best player outside of the PL and turned down advances from PL clubs this is his chance to show his talent.

Form is temporary ..... class is permanent and Whitts is CLASS.

Totally agree with this about Whitts, he starts the season well and then as you said goes missing, I think as well he plays to deep and is not so effective.
Hudson will be caught out big time I believe, he just isn't quick enough on the ground, and is slow to turn, I hope that MM acts quickly if he sees a weakness, as all points gained will be hard to come by; and will be crucial at the end of the season.

Yes he will play some games well, but the facts are there in the past he goes missing far to often, not good enough In my opinion, plus quite a few others.
