Im english born and bred, lived in wales for 5 years and followed cardiff home and away for 3 years
When the lads chant "always shit on the english side" etc ,i join in-its just banter, adds to the atmosphere truth be told.Theres nothing worse than going to a football match and being surrounded by miserable fuckers.
Rugby fans are far worse, but this never gets reported

Re: Time to end racial chanting (I.E) Anti english -

First off i'd like to say I despise Welsh people who have a massive chip on their shoulders regarding the English, the people on here who hate English people need a clip round the ear for being pathetic.

However singing songs at a football match is banter "Always shit on the English side of the bridge" is not offensive to English people. It's banter between neighbours and you even see it on this board between parts of Cardiff! A few blokes sit next to me and my friends from the Valleys, the abuse we throw at each other in good nature about where we come from is part of being friends.

Do you really think English people think we shag sheep? No. Besides Jeff is from the midlands and a top bloke despite being an English b*stard! :ayatollah:

I fully agree with you mate. I think you are wasting your time though. The reason being, that although most City fans would read this and think 'spot on' there are too many dickheads who think it is ok to chant anti English shite. No! 95% of gays aren't from Brighton. Infact 99% of gays/Lesbians, Transsexuals and what ever else they call themselves live in Kemptown.

Problem with Brighton and the gay stigma is that people from outside Brighton are rather clueless to be honest, head stuck in the sand type people who don't understand how reproduction works and as you're an intelligent man then I really don't need to ex-span any more on the matter?

How do Brum fans feel about chants like "all your fans, are at the mosque" bus stop in Asia etc. A few of your older lads seemed genuinely amused, Gotta admit I had a little chuckle myself but warned a few younger lads in front of me the stewards and police might not take too kindly to them in this day of age

never heard that :yr fans at the mosque;quite funny  .it don,t bother me.the fact that in oct the 300 or so fans we had at the ccs were 98pc white is more funny.there is a youtube vid when we beat millwall 0.6 a couple of year ago.there must have been some stuff said cos you can hear blues singing 1.0 to the pakistan  we have had it over the years.it happens but the reality is most of our fans are white.we do have a higher number than the average team of non white fans though.i think the younger lads tend to be more pc if you like than older lads.they been brought up with it.that bunch of kids must have been young cos i heard some of ours singing ;where were you when you were blue?; i went on a bus from blues to villa park around 07.had my then wife with me.one pissed kid was singing you,re just a bus stop in deli.i remember thinking pot kettle  .on the whole it,s water off a ducks back but like you say the old bill might not take it that way.the old bill like feeling everyones pain these days more than catching criminals.with the amount of cctv in the grounds it,s a easy nicking.a daft pissed up kid sings a daft song for 30 secs then all of a sudden he has a race conviction on his cv.

most of it is pure banter...even english city fans I know joined into "always shit on the english side of the bridge" etc...

wouldnt take it too seriously, same goes for chants bout Brighton being gay etc.

I got lots of time for BHA, quiete a remarkable journey, from Goldstone to Withdean and now ito the lovely Amex at Falmer (the best new ground, by a mile), been to MillStad when u guys beat Bristol City to go up. And most Brighton kow exactly how to handle banter, remember a tuesday-night game at Ninian, and the banter between us and Brighton was brilliant and funny...
To our "we can see you holding hands.." the brighton fans put their arms in the air and actually were holding hands etc...
I remember the BHA loved the game too, had a good read on the NorthStandBanter message board after....

I find myself explaining these kinds of things to my non-football (by that I mean rugby) friends all the time.

The way I go about explaining it is this; Some people like to watch opera to de-stress, some like to watch emmerdale, some like to have a few pints, some like to take drugs. Me? I like to go down the City watch the footy and collectively with my 'tribe' take the piss out of people from a different tribe from a distance.

It's mostly harmless. If any football fan takes offence to a football chant sang by the opposite fans then they are probably in the wrong place.

We sing 'Always shit on the english side of the bridge' - does anyone cry? No. They sing 'should have built a wall and not a bridge' back.
What would you rather we sang? 'Gosh, don't we all get along regardless of what side of the bridge we originate from'?

I would even argue that the chanting aimed at Brighton fans isn't homophobic as such because we don't know and don't care if there are or aren't gay people attending when it is sung it is merely fun being poked at a stereotype.

The only offensive chanting that exists in football is actual racism toward players and anti-sectarian/nazi chanting that exists but is never heard in our part of the world.

Until the chants turn spiteful it's completely fine with me! :ayatollah:

You remind me of that chap on TV last year who said he was in the 'SAS' and appeared on national TV claiming to be a war hero but the press rumbled him.

I did a T in Serv during my time so dont feel the same affinity towards it which is
why i just wrote English Regiment (i think, as i did not consciously omit it)) No more
mysterious than that :? We were deployed post war and were glorified f*cking postmen
which is why the transfer to 'something else'. I could google a dozen different units
and taskings if i could be arsed and you'd be none the wiser. but my time in the mob was
a full BBB experience that left a bad taste.

This is a good thread. Having fans from other clubs really helps this forum.(with the odd exception ;) )

personally i think its all good banter, providing no individuals are directly targeted. (With the odd exception ;) )

I agree with the OP to a point - we've got quite a few English players in the squad, but at the same time - the majority of away fans coming to CCS this season will be no different to the Championship crowds of the past; we're going to get some anti Welsh abuse off half of them, so I can't see us behaving for long...

:ayatollah:

Taking the piss out of your mate because he's black ginger asian white gay Welsh, English etc etc
is just that. its taking the piss and having a laugh. Its what we do in Britain. If it gets malicious and
nasty then thats a different matter. But wolf whistling Brighton fans? FFS who the f**k can be getting
upset about that. Being Gay in Britain is no longer a stigma unless they want to be martyrs and play
the victim. f*cking get on with it. If I take the piss out of a gay lad and he calls me a sheep-shagger
which is the most offensive?
