Newport are League Two now, so it's not like we are a million miles away from Swansea and Cardiff in Footballing terms anymore. Also, I noticed our support has rapidly grown, and that's great. Some Cardiff fans seem to forget that Newport County went bust, and the fans formed their own club, so naturally we feel quite strongly for a club that WE created. Newport do a lot of community work, but as I said, due to resources we are limited to within our city limits. We do must support from outside of Newport of course, and I've noticed in MARSHFIELD a few months ago there was like 10 kids playing, 2 with CCFC tops on, 4 with NCAFC tops on, which made me smile. It's nice to see a future for our club. We are League Two, and it hasn't quite sunk in yet, but tomorrow it will do.
I have noticed a lot of "ex-Cardiff City" fans coming over Rodney Parade. They haven't stayed though, they don't quite understand the hatred Newport County has for Cardiff. The only lot over in CF who can relate are the 70's and 80's lot who would have had running battles with our lot. Old times. But, I think if we met in the FA Cup a lot of Cardiff fans would soon grasp the game is a "big deal" as soon as Newport sell out the game - either home or away - and probably extra 'Heddlu' rolling about.
I'm over the moon for yourselves and the Jacks, and it's great for Welsh Football. But, keep looking down on us Cardiff City fans, but "lil" Newport aren't soo "lil" anymore.

What are your expectations for the season mate? Stay in the league for the first season or mount a promotion challenge? How's your squad looking and have you signed any new players?

Newport thinks very highly of themselves. You've never been considered a serious rival of Cardiff! You claim to fame is turning up in a meaningless competition where we had no interest.
Hardly something to shout about but, each to their own
All about banter kid.Oakfield is just as bad as Ringland. I'm lucky I live in a posh part of Newport - yes, it actually exists!
Back in the 80's we had a huge rivalry with Cardiff City so I've been told. Alot of the 80's County lot went missing for 10 years and have only just popped up now, guess they couldn't bare to watch us in Non-League. We've done alright for ourselves, and seeing as we still have the "fan-power", we hope to smash Swansea City aside with their version, and of course we've already done Wrexham - on a sunny day at Wembley.
Cardiff City lads know that Newport County's lot are nothing to turn your nose up at. Wales away days, Cardiff City have even been out-numbered, true story! Still though, be nice if more Jacks came to Wales away days. Probably because you 'orrible bastards.

But have never got why most County fans have so much hatred for us. I've supported City since I was 10 in 1979 and went to my first away games at Somerton Park in the 82/83 season, the first game was in the Welsh Cup and the next in the league on Easter Monday, the crowd at Somerton was over 16k, we lost both 1-0, but even back then I never noticed any big rivalry, maybe it's because I've never been a lad and was never voluntarily involved in aggro? Also, I was at Ninian Park late in the 87/88 season in your last league season and you never even took 500 fans to Ninian. I know things were really bad for County back then, but less than 500 fans for a local derby is quite frankly pathetic.
Despite the animosity shown by County fans toward us, I wish County all the best back in the League, I got some friends who support them and despite its bad press, I quite like the Port as a place. I think they'll do quite well.

The people of Newport are the salt of the earth mate and it ain't that bad a town. I agree, the press it gets is totally unjustified.

The rivalry is completely 1-sided, no-one apart from a small group from Cardiff who used to fight with a group of your lot gives a monkeys. In fact a fair few City fans see you as a 2nd club. Certainly the majority (those who don't realise how anti-Cardiff a lot of your fans are) were pleased you went up.
For the majority of our fans you don't even come on the radar.
Given City are in the premiership now I'd expect a fair few more from Newport to come to see a top level club.

Tim, in total we've played County a total of 20 times, all in the 30's and 80's (League games). Another reason why I've never really understood their hatred towards us. We've played Liverpool in the league more than them and we haven't played Liverpool in the league since the 59/60 season!
