Looking forward to the inevitable:

Cardiff spend way too much money

Cardiff dont do nearly as well as they think they should

tan gets p*ssed

malky gets sacked

cardiff go down despite new managemenr

tan pulls the plug leaving cardiff with an excess of the current 100m debt.

when will you guys learn?

What exactly can us fans do about any of that?

Get representation on the board? but maybe its too late for all that.

The way some od you are talking though...as if you're actually financially stable and going to become thia huge club

why would you care either way? you support swansea dont you
Where was you when we were in the championship. You can give a smug reply, but you sound incredibly bitter that swansea are no longer wales only premiership side

Three years and still no additional seating at yours. Jenkins trying to muscle in on transfers. Laudrup pissed off. yet to see any evidence of serious investment in players. But then again, thats Swansea, im not really arced. Why the obsession with us and our message boards

All those things you mentioned are down to our board being financially prudent. It's served us well. But these are exciting tmes for Swansea and there have been some good signings already with more promised (all within the clubs wage structure).

why am i bothered with cardiff? because you're our rivals. It's good to have rivals in sport. But more than that its astounding to see that some of your fans havent learnt anything.

The Alternative view is that a person with an extremely good business reputation is investing money (as opposed to spending) in the playing side. This investment sees the side reach the top 12, in the first season, making Tan Sri extremely happy and facilitates huge recognition for him personally in Asia.

Tan Sri decides to push on and aims for a top 8 side within 3 years and, following the acquisition of further investors, the club becomes capable of challenging for Europe on a regular basis.

2018..... Malky is still with us. After 5 years in the Premiership the club is financially secure, with no debt, and we are the envy of many clubs.

Yes there is a down side. Because of our success we are constantly on TV and often don't know whether we are playing on a Saturday, Sunday, Monday or Thursday - but that is where I believe we are going...

:laughing6:

What odds do you think you'll get on that?

There are some big, big sides in the premier league who you sinply cannot compete with financially. Tan as you said is a shrewd businessman. With that said, he will not stick around for a project which accumulates debt. This season will be all or bust for you. But spending big is not the way to do it. Like Swansea, or even stoke, you have to find a style which always you to compete.

Spending what you're talking about will see you in admin sooner rather than later.

Had this question been asked a year ago or even a couple of weeks ago I would probably have agreed with you. But nothing surprises me anymore. I thought we would get a couple of £5m signings, a few £2m signings and some damn good freebies. I never thought we would be looking at spending nearly £30m on 3 players but clearly Tan Sri believes he has the finances in place to support such an investment.

You are right about there being some rich people in the Premiership. But lets not forget that Tan Sri is one of the worlds 1000 richest people. Couple that with other "interested" investors and you then have some potential.

Don't get me wrong. I don't think we are going to do it overnight. But I think next season we will be pretty safe.

Remember there are several parts to the balance sheet. Yes purchasing players increases debt and this is shown as a liability on the balance sheet. On the other side of the balance sheet players values are shown as assets. Players like Cornelius, Wanyama and Ince will see their value rise and this would have been taken into account long before initial enquiries were made of the players.

So whilst the "debt" is offset against "Assets" there is then the TV money. A huge amount this year. A 12th place side last season received £45m. Next season this will be so much more - and this could be guaranteed for the seasons that follow.

On top of that, as the club progresses, there will be individuals and corporates who want to invest in the club. Tan Sri will have every opportunity to sell some of his shares should he wish to - but the clubs balance sheet should, essentially, show a profit.

Bryndon2 - BTW.......

I have no issues with Swansea. A little bit of banter is good - and a lot of my mates are from Swansea. Indeed, as a Newspaper Photographer, I had the pleasure of photographing a few of your games last season.

What I was trying to suggest is that there is more than one correct way to reach success. There is the financially astute method that is being adopted by Swansea - which is not necessarily wrong - and there is also the perhaps more risky approach that some teams adopt. This approach has worked for a lot of clubs and there is no reason why it wont work for others. As long as they appreciate both sides of the balance sheet - and not follow the examples of Leeds etc

You make good points. One thing I am certain of is that Mr Tan has an ambitious plan and has the finance to see it through. To achieve the objectives Malky must have told him what he needs to succeed on the pitch and it seems like he has the green light.
On the swansea model, what grates when I hear all the' debt free' financially astute blather is the conveniently forgotten administrations and free stadium that has enabled them to do it.

So if they were happy with Southamptons offer and we are moving up from the 10 million reported then surely this could be a sign we can get this deal?
