Back in 1999 when we had millwall at home first game of the season I was catching the 10.40 train at Newport station to Cardiff which was out of paddington. The train arrived and about 50 millwall fans tried to get off the train to drink in Newport but were forced back on by police dogs.
I was in the same carriage and one of them saw my pin badge and came over.
There were about 30 blokes who you knew would not budge if there was trouble but there was also 20 youngsters who by now were shitting their pants.
South Wales finest were telling them how every man and his dog was turning out for them and that there was already a thousand lads in town waiting for them.
To be fair the millwall guy speaking to me was decent and was laughing saying it looks like we are in for a tough day Taff..
I swear that as soon as the train arrived in Cardiff one lot of police took the 30 lads to SAMs bar whereas the 20 youngsters got taken across to the London platform so they could catch the first train back to London.
Those thirty lads were sat outside SAMs bar having a drink when Cardiff came down Mary street and attacked the bar

I was 15 at the time, we (25 of us) got a service bus from Cwmbran, as soon as the bus arrived at Cardiff station fighting broke out as the bus doors were open, there were fights all the way up to the ground, we went to the old ninian pub where there were so many people there that we could only stay outside, the firm that was in the ninian pub that day, (old school hard men from all over cardiff/valleys) was a sight i have not seen before or since, nobody would go near them and the walk to the stadium was trouble free for us but many utd fans got nailed, how somebody was not killed that day can only be classed as a miracle, a lot of utd fans were running away but down streets into dead ends because they did'nt know the area, thankfully them dark days of skin heads etc are well over but for all those there that day will never forget whay happened.
