Excellent. He is a defender his job is to defend, he really does that well.

I am not sure what some of you think premier league players are, Gary Monk is playing tonight and doesn't look out of place.

If Kev is called upon, he will deliver........

We wouldn't have been saying that if his curling shot dipped just under the bar instead of hitting it.

What would that have to do with mcnaughton?

McNaughton was marking Zaha and he allowed Zaha to cut in from the left and curl that shot that hit the crossbar? If Zaha scored that, nobody would be saying McNaughton "did a job" on him.

Pleased for Super Kev, as I think (a) he has been loyal to Cardiff City FC over many years, and (b) he had a good end to the season

Not sure how much he will play but certainly good cover on the bench

Super Kev...Premiership Man :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :notworthy:

Gutted for mcphail, was hopping he get a coaching role or something with the club, great news for kev

Thats made my day :ayatollah: Kev deserves to be there after the service he's given us. He won't be first choice but he will do a job when called upon. No room for sentiment but rewarding loyalty like Kev's, sets an example to other players already at the club and to prospective signings that our club will look after the players who give their all :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

In 2003 Andy Legg Legg Legg was our Kevin MCNaughton and the City dumped him after the play off final and I was gutted ! Yes Kev is all things City but back then Andy Legg Legg Legg converted us and was a Legg end. Life and football goes on. I would have loved us to have given Legg one more year ....

Mutual respect between club and player will help team spirit even more imo. Players know they will be rewarded for loyalty and service. Kev deserves his chance.

This club has been good enough towards Stephen McPhail. He has basically drawn 3 years worth of wages and given f**k all back and before anyone mentions his illnesses, where else would you get £500k p/a in sick pay whilst recovering from illness?

If you or I had the same illness we'd be lucky to get £100 p/w in SSP.

He might be a nice guy etc. but he has been well rewarded for doing nothing and I for one will be glad to see the back of him.

Cardiff City: McPhail set to leave, McNaughton in talks

Cardiff's City's out-of-contract midfielder Stephen McPhail, 33, is likely to leave the newly-promoted club after seven years in south Wales.

Having been dogged by illness, the ex-Republic of Ireland international has not played a league game this season.

McPhail was diagnosed with a form of lymphoma in November 2009 and then the autoimmune disease Sjogren's Syndrome.

Meanwhile, defender Kevin McNaughton, 30, has opened talks about a possible new two-year deal.

McPhail's departure and McNaughton's talks come as the Bluebirds prepare for their Premier League debut having dominated the 2012-13 Championship title race.

McNaughton, who joined from Aberdeen in July, 2006, is, like McPhail, out of contract.

However, having made only two appearances as a substitute in the FA Cup in 2012-13, McPhail will not add to 203 games he has played for Cardiff since joining from Barnsley in July, 2006.

Scot McNaughton has made 263 Bluebirds appearances since his arrival.

Tonteg Bluebird wrote:I love Kev as a person and he is Mr Cardiff City, but he will surely never play in the Premier League? Unfortunately, he is nowhere near good enough and I thought Malky said he was going to be ruthless? I would have rathered Malky let Kev go and use his wages to bring in a better quality right back. I know the majority won't like that, but I want to see us constantly improving and progressing, not keeping hold of players who aren't capable of stepping up to the next level.

well unfortunatly im with you on this one, gives the ball away to many times coming out of defence, would be punished more in the prem for mistakes, love the guy. but we got to be ruthless, if it was left to half of these on here. we would have earnie upfront next season

I can understand you comments that he was never going to be kept on but for a player who captained our FA CUP team at wembley and for you to then say "I'll be glad to see the back of him" does sound a tad thankless.
