I know that, but if McNaughton was playing down the right wing, he wouldn't have had the ability to score that goal. I don't understand why we are renewing his contract and wasting wages on someone who will not be good enough for us next season. We may as well have Jason Perry, Andy Legg and Willie Boland playing for us next season. They're nowhere near good enough for the Premiership, but they are 100%ers who give their all, so like McNaughton, they would be fine.

I know, but wingers tuck in to allow full backs to overlap and get into attacking positions theirselves. I wish we had a right back with the ability to play on the right wing and score a goal like Rangel just did.

A goalscoring rb is hardly high on the list of priorities.

Lee Dixon and Gary Neville are two of the premier leagues most decorated right backs and they didnt score volleys.

English Wigan defending is shocking, Welsh Wigan couldn't get any luckier with that goal!

Re: English Wigan v Welsh Wigan

wigan deserve to go down with that disply of horrendous defending... how many chances did they want to clear the ball....

shocking..

I think we still need a right back who offers at least a little bit of something going forward mind. Neville in particular was just as good attacking as defending, he was brilliant at overlapping and delivering quality balls into the box. Full backs who are dangerous attacking not only gives us an extra dimension going forward, but stops the opposing winger being as much as an attacking threat as he will have to track back to stop the full back.

You are a moron if your expecting goals from our right back.

Anyway looks like this could be the last premier league Wigan derby. Lucky it's being replaced by a much better one next season.

In what way? The point I'm trying to make is this season, we had either McNaughton or Connolly at right back who are good defensively, but aren't much of a threat going forwards. Now we are in the Premiership, we need to improve this area and bring in a right back who is still solid defensively, but can also chip in with a few assists like Taylor has on the left side this season. This is the Premiership, being just a solid full back isn't enough in my opinion. Taylor has had a great season being defensively solid and chipping in with numerous assists. We need to sign someone like him on the other side I think.

I think everyone knows we need a right back  Kev is good enough for cover though. Sounds like he actually did shag your wife the way you keep harping on :laughing6:

You said we needed someone who could bomb down the right and finish like Rangel. Hes scored 7 in 5 seasons ffs.

Then you change it to why need a good attacking right back.

I dont disagree but yoy changed the goal posts.

And in our first season I suggest Malky will be looking for a solid full back.

We need a right back so why are we renewing the contract of someone who won't be good enough to get into our team? Surely we should be letting go of the dead wood and using the wages to bring someone better in? I love Kev but surely he would rather play regular football at a lesser level next season than not playing at all? Renewing his contract makes no sense whatsoever.

Anyway back on topic, Wigan have beaten theirselves tonight with shambolic defending. They deserve to get relegated tonight after this performance.
