Glad you took the time to point out the meaning of the term 'irony' to the heckler Steve

Steve

Any personal insults directed against him are both unnecessary and unwelcome. It will hardly help in getting the opportunity to get him to listen to views opposed to his own (if that is possible as he is not used to dissenting voices in any of his organisations is he ? They tend to be replaced by more favourable ones pretty quickly).

Couple of points where I differ from your views though

1)The heckling wasn`t that light hearted.Certainly for the 5 or 6 tables immediately around where I sat there was a large number of people who were pretty angry about his comments and made their views known - it wasn`t light hearted banter (but not insulting personal comments either)

2) Are you sure that his apparent show of humourous reaction to the negative response wasn`t as much to save "face" with his Chinese-Malay guests and staff as genuinely taking it in good grace?

And one further point. His speech really was rubbish , both in content and delivery , and also unnecessary when the night should have been all about paying respect to the players and manager who got us promoted.

I think he made his point quite clearly & showed a human side to him. The fact that he acknowledged that the bluebird MUST stay is a positive step and shows that identity and traditions being important is getting across to him.

It's not that I'm against VT himself, just don't share his vision, strongly disagree with it in fact.

I cannot take his bluebird being scared stuff seriously, I'm sorry.

I think your right with your 'saving face' comment Keith, and that's exactly what I was referring too when I mentioned him being driven away from the club, he clearly isn't a man you it's used to being shown disrespect, he's made it clear on the BBC that disrespect and 'being unkind' would mean him walking away from the club, and bearing in mind our debt levels to him and others could potentially see us sent into a tailspin.

And that "face" obsession may actually have put him in a bit of a cleft stick position.

To walk away from a club now in the Premier would lose him huge amounts of "face" throughout the Far East where the vast majority of his business empire is based , so it is no longer a very palatable option. To walk away and save "face" he would have to do so at a considerable financial profit by a sale of his shares to a new investor/group of investors. He wouldn`t get that back just by stopping further investment and reclaiming his loans by collecting in the assets (player sales, Sky money etc)with a consequent relegation of the club under his stewardship (which would be another reputational faux pas for him).

So I genuinely believe that VT is now almost as reliant on CCFC as it is on him in the short to medium term.Hopefully , such a position might pursuade him to at least listen to views from the fanbase which differ from his own.

But he also initially stated that he was in this for business reasons only, but now he's getting the football bug it seems, we are one of the huge amount of clubs that have foreign investment rather than a 'fan owner' which we would all love but have become few and far between. When he changed our strip and badge he making decisions at arms length, now he is getting more involved and in this very speech stated that 'maybe' when we play United and Liverpool we can play in our traditional blue

What's that lads??? It's compromise! He's coming around and taking our views and opinions on board, he clearly feels strongly about red, so won't do a U turn on it, but other things he will do, let's work with him not against him via organisations such ad CCSC and who knows what can be achieved!

Re: Vincent Tan's speech last night at the CCSC awards

Gav, do you not think hes compromising to a degree because he needs to stay here to profit? If fans turn against him it could get nasty. With Premier League football we are in a far better financial situation especially if we can stay there for a few years. We are not so reliant on the bank of Tan anymore and he knows it in my opinion.

Keith

I can only comment sitting on the table next to him and by the stage that the heckling did not come across as hostile. I agree the speech was at times cringeworthy but I also look on it keith we are more saleable in the premiership and I believe we have more chance of being sold on and returned to blue in the position we are in now.
I believe we have seen the last of any interference with the clubs current crest or shirt now and I don't even envisage him even changing the seat colours.
I think Clive made it quite clear his stance regarding the bluebird but I still saw tan laugh amongst his people and he was still very happy when he came to say goodnight to steve.
We have waited patiently for years to achieve this goal perhaps we have to be patient for a couple of years to get our colours back.

It's obvious to me that he was trying to make the point that the Dragon & Bluebird can co-exist. He obviously didn't make the point the greatest way but it is showing respect for the past and the opinions of a section of fans whilst also giving a nod to where we are now.

VT seems like a very humble and gracious bloke for a rich man and his willingness to compromise is admirable when he really doesn't have to.

Pity some fans cannot respect his views as he is showing he respects theirs.
