now this thread is based on the fact he said hes going to watch watford because they play a 3 man defence. rather than going out to watch some kids play football, or look for some talent hes going to watch a team play a 3 man defence.

i can see roy hodgson saying next week, im off to rochdale to see them play a 5 man attack, forget talent and stuff, i'd rather see a tactic in lower league football, and not watch how class teams play even

I think the point your missing is that he isn't in charge of developing a kids career or digging out some unknown gem that is the job of the clubs , they have to be of a certain standard before they come on to his radar as an international manager and be of a certain level of experience , unfortunately for him the pool isn't very deep at the moment , and I doubt watching one watford game is going to be too much of a disaster

Don't be silly, if he called up a player from Havant and waterlooville under 17's there wouldn't be any negative said about it

It's crazy isn't it, now he's Wales manager he can never go and watch another match again that doesn't have a young welsh player involved. The man can't win wi some on here.

he could also go and watch pontardawe athletic under 10's they've got a cracking little striker

If City give Watford a torrid time tonight and score a few goals as I hope, what a waste of a trip for Coleman! Surely Wales should be trying to have a better defence than a Championship play-off contender?

Why would that be a wasted trip? It would mean that a 3 man defence against a team playing similar football to Cardiff will expose it.

He isn't looking to have the same standard of defence, he is looking how a 3 man defence works in match where both teams are similarly matched. A 3 man defensive system isn't "a championship defensive tactic".

Well, he's interested in a team with none. :laughing6:

I can see Coleman's point totally - he wants to see how differing managers are playing tactics he's interested in. It's just a coincidence that he's picked the game that they're playing us.

I don't think there is another game with two contrasting styles and formations involving a 3 man defence that are similar in standard today,

I think it's just a pathetic excuse to jump on him again. He could win the World Cup and you would have some saying, bale really won it etc.

Re: Chris Coleman said tonight....

I know, but I was just pointing out that you said "why would he be interested in a team with 1 welsh player?" When he's actually interested in a team with none.

I don't like him and don't think he's the right choice of manager, but I wouldn't pick little faults like the OP has. :thumbright:

Yeah I know. I was responding to the guy saying "he's not interested in us so I don't like him" or something like that. I doubt he's gone to watch Watford, he's gone to watch how a formation works up against a similar level side what weaknesses get exploited etc.

The fact is he's probably more interested in crystal palace right now than Cardiff. That's a positive not a negative.

Re: Chris Coleman said tonight....

Sat Apr 06, 2013 8:57 am

What does any manager do before play s another team? they look at way they play! so why can't Coleman see how a team uses a formation he is maybe planning to use? This thread is a dig at Coleman intentional or otherwise, as any excuse to bash Coleman is jumped up on here.

he could of even said, yeah im watching to see how bellamy is looking.

i feel as the man in charge of our national team, he should know, that he has to watch what he says, few weeks back he was at either the rugby or horse racing, cant remember which it was with charlotte jackson, rather than watching football, looking for some talent.

I think your wrong, i think if coleman is off to watch a 3 man defence he should say he is off to watch a 3 man defence, he already knows what he needs to know about bellamy, i think we need to look past this and be glad he is looking at new ways to play looking out for the future of welsh football

3-5-2 could be a good way for us to play or ever a 3-4-3 and what better game for him to get a true test of how well it works against a top top team like cardiff, on a massiveday where the whole watford team will be under pressure?

So you want him to just pick players and not worry about tactics. I think this is pretty much the most positive/forward thinking thing I have ever heard Coleman say, I think Ben Davies,Ashley Williams and Ricketts could actually make a decent back 3.

More likely because it's not too far from London and he can take Charlotte, stay in some plush 5 star hotel with her and have champagne etc. and charge it all to the FAW

yeah i suppose your all right, wales should play with a back 3, we conceed enough with a back 4, so why not allow others to score more past us. im not picking the fact that watford have no welsh players ect, but watford do not play similar to wales, if he wants to see tactic's i dont see why he's going to the championship, why not watch top teams play, learn from that, and again, everyone thinks im doing it just to attack coleman because where hes from ect, i'll repeat it, i have nothing against coleman, or where he's from, or who he supports or anything like that

Why do you assume a back 3 will let in more than a back 4?

Gunter is killing us at the moment and being targeted every game. By having a back 3 we can flood the midfield and play possession football meaning less attacks form. We have an abundance of talent in midfield, allen, Ledley, Ramsey, Collison, Vaughan so why not utilise it.

Who do you suggest he watches today then where he can take a look at a 3 man defence against a side similar in standard?

Re: Chris Coleman said tonight....

Sat Apr 06, 2013 1:11 pm

As a welsh fan, I think its good he is going to games looking at different tactics it's not all just about the players you have it's about what tactics that can fit well, and be most effective with the players you have!

Also if any of you who like to comment negative comments, Here is a positive one for you to chew on........!

Watford have a goalkeeper named Jonathan Bond who is Welsh who is being courted by ENGLAND and people are saying, he is as good as if not better at the same age as Joe Hart!

I doubt Coleman is going to go on TV and say, 'oh I'm going to the Watford game to make sure Bond opts for Wales over England!'

And what is he going to find out about Bellamy that he does not know after 73 caps!!!!!

Also despite him being a Jack I think anyone can see the improvements in the last four games, to have a little hope that we are going to be a team to watch...!

You only have to look at international sides in the past that relied on the one individual with good players (not other World Class players) around them!
Bulgaria had Stochkov(sorry about spelling of these players names!)
Sweden had Brolin
Portugal have Ronaldo,

Just to name a few!

And looking at Wales a lot of these young players are getting close to 30-50 caps each with one or two new youngsters breaking through (J Williams being one!) add that to the under 21's who's results have been impressive for the last 4/5 years we have two other youngsters at clubs like Man City and Man United who are thought highly by the clubs.

With regards to English born players playing for Wales! The home nations have the strictest qualifying process in world football they are not fifa rules but an agreement between the home nations! It's not our fault that England are too arrogant to have taken advantage of this rule in the past as much as they should have! Michael Owen, Owen Hargreaves,Rob Jones are ones I can think of that could have played for Wales! but other nations John Barnes, Sterling, neither born in England!

We have to be realistic in where we stand in world football. We have to qualify from the hardest area of the World (UEFA) if we look where we are ranked in that region and not the world we are in the 30's maybe 40's that's about correct at this stage. Can we improve? Will we improve? time will tell.

We complain about players not turning up yet we as fans have not turned up! It has to go both ways in the last 5 or 6 squads player pull outs have been at a minimum yet fans have not been willing to pay £10/20 to watch the likes of Bale,Ramsey,Bellamy,A Williams,Allen. A lot of our squad is premiership now and others are top championship players!

Its time to get behind them all, FAW-Players- management team.

By the way I'm a Cardiff Fan and I made the trip to Swansea for all the internationals that have been played there!
