The green, green grass of home: Cardiff want Celtic's Joe Ledley back.. if they go up.

Cardiff want to bring Joe Ledley ‘home’ from Celtic - if they clinch promotion to the Premier League.

Boss Malky Mackay is hot on the trail of the versatile Welsh international who quit the club for the Glasgow giants three seasons ago.
And Ledley could be persuaded to come back to his first love, where he was part of the side that went agonisingly close to reaching the rop flight in his time under then-boss Dave Jones.
Ledley is still under contract at Celtic but a fee of around £3million may tempt Neil Lennon’s club to sell - and Cardiff’s owners will have funds to make that happen and match his wages.

Cardiff have pushed the boat out for big-name signings, such as Craig Bellamy, in the past and would try hard for former hero and Wales international Ledley.
The Bluebirds are seven points clear at the top of the Championship - nine points clear of the team in third - and also have a game in hand over all the division's promotion candidates.
Mackay will be given a healthy fighting fund to make an impact in the top flight, assuming Cardiff get there, and work has already been done to check out potential signings.

I'd have him here but I don't think that he'd be playing week in - week out.

Poor old Joe !

A year to go on his contract and obviously no approach to extend from Celtic so we have a Cardiff come home story dropped in the Daily Mirror..... Quite predictable really.

He will probably sign for Leicester or someone like them after christmas when he is preparing to be out of contract.

Hes still a good player and hes wel thought of at Celtic

Hes played against Barcelona and other top european clubs in front of crowds of 40k plus and has won medals ===
To say he would hav edone better with us is pure speculation ==Just look at Darcy Blake --didnt do him much good staying with us

I dont blame joe for going although his agent is a twwwot and stitched us up--

Id have him back for 1 million only and 15k a week

Throwing his career away? Lack of ambition? The prospect of Champions League football and being a regular in a division winning team is not what I would call a lack of ambition or throwing your career away. He played the full 90 minutes of the win over Barcelona.

Anyway, I would much rather see us sign Mathews!

As a youngster, Joe was being talked of in the same bracket as Bale and Ramsey. While he would never have hit the heights of the Gareth Bale's, Joe's career was developing really well with us. He was constantly improving until he needed his hip operation that our club paid for. Instead of continuing to develop with us, Joe unfortunately then chose to shit all over us and leave for the first big pay cheque that was offered to him.

Joe became yet another mercenary, he was a regular Wales international while playing for us, playing in a better standard league with better players. But Joe's move to Celtic, playing in an inferior league with inferior players has unfortunately made his career decline. Joe is no longer a regular Wales international and Joe will now no longer be able to hit the heights he once could have as a footballer.

Joe could have been a decent Premiership player, but I now believe he is currently a worse player than he was before he left us. If you play with lesser players at a lesser standard, it drags you down. Joe knew this and any good Championship player moving to Celtic as an easy way to win a few medals, earn a bit more money and have a few games in Europe is a big lack of ambition. Any player who really wanted to test himself and play at the highest standard possible in Joe's position would have either stayed with us to continue improving and developing, or move to a better standard league with higher standard players.

I hope Joe thinks it was worth it, being able to win the SPL title at the likes of Inverness, Ross County and Dundee. Unfortunately, that is as good as it'll ever get for Joe now, he could have done a lot better than that and achieved so much more, it's a sad shame.

Who are you exactly? Some sort of pundit extraordinaire?

No, just someone with the sense to realise Joe took a step backwards in his career joining an inferior SPL league and he's now become a worse player for it.

Just the deluded bitters who hate him because he left for Celtic when he wasn't offered a new contract at Cardiff. That money grabbing b*stard! Would rather have a job and play football and not go to another club after being released!!!!

noooooo people don't like him because he's SHIT! NOT GOOD ENOUGH

He wouldn't be playing in the CL for Celtic if he was that shit

LMFAO what a comment !! thats the best ive seen since this board started

A Championship club may not be as big a club as Celtic, but the Championship is the higher standard and you would think any footballer wanting to test himself and progressively improve would choose to play in the Championship over the SPL. Or do you think it was just a fluke the Scott McDonald's, Steve McManus', Barry Robson's, Kris Boyd's etc failed to consistantly stand out in the Championship despite being the best players in the SPL during their time there? It's a step up coming from the SPL to the Championship, even Conway said so after his first few games with us.

But look at Steven Fletcher? Dorrans? Ki Sung-Yeung? McCarthy? Maloney? Arteta? Ruddy? Krul? Snodgrass? Jelavic?

All performing in the PL.

Yes, Ledley left us to join Celtic, but his contract was up and he was probably sick and tired of failing at promotion each and every season.
Yes, since he left us he has dropped down levels as he is playing with players that he is head and shoulders above and in a league that is a combination of League 1 and League 2.
Yes, he left us for Champions League glory and SPL titles.

But i would still take him back. He probably knows now that he should have stayed to save his International career and to improve him as a player, but it isn't to late for that to happen. Get him back in and our management team can improve him and develop him.

I for one, would love him back in a City shirt.

I'm so glad none of you are football managers, He's no where near good enough for us, and definatly no-where good enough to grace the premiership, anyone who thinks so knows nothing about football!! FACT

His wales performances are awful and the SPL is like the conference of football

The SPL standard doesn't matter, it's the standard that ledley and Celtic play at during games. Now I don't watch the SPL, I doubt 99.9% of people on here watch games, and I don't think watching hightlights on goals on Sunday or sky sports count as being able to judge a player. But Celtic didn't half give barca a game, and got out of a decent group.

If you are judging a player on international form, Gerrard wouldn't have been a premiership player until this season!

Good thing you're not either. You're just a deluded, bitter moron who can't see his quality. The quality of La Liga isn't great except for the top 5/6 clubs, the league means f**k all. Ledley isn't world class or wouldn't like the PL up but he's a quality player and showed that against Barcelona, Juventus, Spartak Moscow and Benfica.

You clearly know nothing about football if you're claiming because Celtic play in the SPL (where a number of our players have come from) it means Ledley isn't a good player when he consistently showed his ability in the Champions League.
