No, because even if you get relegated out of the Prem it's worth I think seventy million in Parachute payments. It's gone well up this year, so as of this year every team coming down will come down with a lot of money to spend and rebuild for another assault on the Prem. :old:

Gwyn is spot on with this, if you get relegated after this season from the Premier League, the money is beyond what u could ever dream of. The Premier League is now worth £160 mill not £90 Mill any more.

The prize is the same though annis. If we get £160 million for going up then by the nature of them staying up Wigan get the exact same amount of £160m. The importance may vary from club to club but the prize is the same for every club in the prem.

The best way to explain it would be one rich guy and one poor guy both win £6m on the lottery. The prize is exactly the same but the prize is more important to one than the other - but the actual prize is the same.

f*cking hell you are sad.

sad....and banned

f**k me that's a banworthy post? You may disagree with what he says, but I hardly see the bannable offence in it.

Fwiw the difference in income between Ch'ship and P'ship football without doubt makes promotion a far holier grail than, say, promotion from League 1, but the "biggest prize in British football"? Top 5, or either major domestic trophy and the resulting involvement in Europe have to rank higher. In my opinion.

To have just one season in the Premier means guaranteed Sky and other TV money of at least £61m. On top of that gate money , sponsorship etc should give a further £20m plus (even at Championship level we earned £15m or so from this in season 2011/12) so income should be at least £80m.

The parachute money is spread over 4 seasons and they total £48m. You get £16m in each of seasons 1 and 2 , then £8m for each of seasons 3 and 4. So we would have to be relegated and stay there for 4 seasons to get the full £48m.

The first season after relegation , our income would go back to the £20m level - add the £16m parachute money and its still only £36m.The alternative of staying up means income of about £80m again.

I may be wrong but I read somewhere that it's being increased this season, hope someone knows facts.
